Okay well, early in the month of June of 2011 I went to look at what seemed to be a very clean looking 88 supra turbo. I arrived to find a garage kept 1988 white toyota supra turbo 5 speed with a crate long block. So I didn't have all of the money at the time when I went to look at it. So I placed a $5.00 deposit at the owners request so we could have a binding contract saying that I would come back at the end of the month to pick-up and finish purchasing the car. So almost a month later, I went back with the rest of the money, a u-haul car trailer(auto hauler as they call it) and a 04 ram 3500 turbo diesel dually to pick up my new baby. Several miles later down the road we arrived at my house to finally unload the car to it's new home.

Much much more to come. This will become my daily at 300rwhp for awhile, well until my wallet heals from buying the car. Plans for 300rwhp are maft-pro to convert to map based, ct26 at 10-12 psi, 550cc injectors, driftmotion hard-pipes and intercooler kit, driftmotion 3" down-pipe with the elbow, driftmotion 3" ss exhaust, greddy profec bspec II, a hks ssq vented, some kind of wide band to monitor my afrs and the head bolts torque'd to 75 ft-lbs. A suggestion for the wideband would be appreciated.

I'd suggest a new clutch, any time you have it all apart like this it's a good time to replace the clutch unless its brand new.

Also that looks like a crazy manual boost controller he had going on? A lot of questionable things going on here from the previous owner. Those injectors appear to be the stock 440cc's.

The porno red interior is a nice touch, though.

Childersburg AL,
your interior looks great, im jealous actually. you definatly have a solid platform for a great build.
as far as a wide band look in to the innovate lc-1 it comes with datalogging software. I put mine on not too long ago and so far i love it.
im sure others will agree.
Ill be watching this build since i have the same car lol

Thanks for your replies, yeah it's a lot of pictures I kind of went picture happy. But it is my new baby so I'm just all around excited. There's also some kind of crazy fpr so someone weirdly modded the fuel rail.. Also they put valves in the top of the rail where the banjo bolts were. So I'll be putting the stock fpr back on + replacing the banjo bolts. The egr was also removed.. I'd like to put it back in but the charcoal canister is completely gone and it looks like someone jb welded the back side of the intake, plus I can't find any of the other egr pieces except for vacuum lines/vsv the bvsv tips are broken off.

After doing some research.. Does anyone know where I can get egr pieces? I'll need as far as I can tell, charcoal canister and egr valve as well as the egr vacuum modulator. I don't want the added egts caused without the egr. Also the vacuum line piece that goes on top of the power steering pump, it looks like someone tried to melt one side of it as if to seal it.

Nice looking project, ignorance must have been bliss for the previous owner. The things done to that/ things not done to that car speak volumes about the previous owner.

Check out the for sale section, there are plenty of people that have parts cars.

If you think that is bad.. The car has an aftermarket fpr(Looks like Turbosmart FPR-800 Fuel Pressure Regulator sold by driftmotion) but the car having the fpr isn't the bad thing.. They decided to run fuel lines up and over the alternator and very very close to the battery(I have pictures of how it was rigged by finding a sd card with pictures of the car on it). IMO that's just asking for the car to light on fire..

Well that’s actually typical, although very dangerous, it’s typical. I have witnessed first hand what happens when the steel braided line sits its self on the unprotected power stud on the alternator. There was a small flame and two guys shaking their heads when it was out wondering how to fix it…

I kinda find it interesting that you found a SD card with photos of it before hand...

It wasn't a SS braided line.. It was just your standard unprotected fuel line.. So I'll be looking for the stock fpr and egr pieces.

Can anyone tell by look if the afm is the stock one? Or the lexus afm uprgade..?

Little update but sorry no pictures. Just scrubbing the lower intake manifold, cam covers and other nasty looking parts that I will be reusing. Making sure everything is really clean will make me feel better and look better in the long run, plus I know there won't be any junk or debris in there to block up my new oil passages. :icon_bigg

Would it bother the TB gasket if I cleaned the upper intake in diesel? I'll be removing all the electronics if it won't bother the TB gasket.

The 1UZ MAF is much larger than the 7M. From the photo and markings, I would say it’s from a 7M. I have never used diesel to clean a intake, but from my experience the TB gaskets are usually old and crunchy and could do for replacement.

By the way, keep the pictures coming, we do like them!

Here's a few pictures of the cam covers right now

And here's the machine that helped lol
p1732182_4.jpg

I can't decide whether or not to paint them since taking the paint (that was already on them but chipping) off showed me how good they'd look polished.. Or just to repaint them a gloss black.

Nice build so far.

Dunno if someone already said it but if you get teh maft pro you wont need another boost controller. Maft pro has the option for 1 just need the solenoid.

Okay so after sifting through my parts. I'm missing a lot of the egr based parts. I can't even find the vacuum manifold for what goes under the intake. So now I've got a new dilemma 1) Continue with the build and do it without the egr which at this part would be much cheaper. 2) Buy all the egr pieces and install them as to keep CHT and EGT down.. Post opinions on what you think I should do. Right now I'm leaning towards buying the egr pieces and installing them.

Okay so another little update. Just cleaning up some parts that looked absolutely horrible.. Along with my present that the previous owner had left in my oil pan. So here goes the pictures!
These are some before shots, this piece was just too filthy for me to put on a new clean engine.
p1735145_1.jpg

p1735145_2.jpg

And here's some afters.
p1735145_3.jpg

p1735145_4.jpg

p1735145_5.jpg

p1735145_6.jpg

This is the present that I found in my oil pan.. Under the baffle..
p1735145_7.jpg

p1735145_8.jpg

p1735145_9.jpg

Little size compare..
p1735145_10.jpg

The oil pan after some serious cleaning on the inside
p1735145_11.jpg

Oil pan isn't in as good a shape as I was hoping.. Lots of surface rust on it, also a welded on patch.. Not sure as to why yet.
p1735145_12.jpg

p1735145_13.jpg

p1735145_14.jpg

p1735145_15.jpg

p1735145_16.jpg

p1735145_17.jpg

Even after using the wire wheel on the bottom of the oil pan, it still has a lot of rust. I'll probably be using a grinding wheel lightly on it to remove the surface rust and paint it. All the debris that was under the baffle(Massive pain to get out from under it..) is what seems to be parts of a piston(Skirt and some compression rings) as well as wrist pin side of the connecting rod.

Ive never used the maft pro boost controller but i dont have doubts in its capability. Plus then you can just throw the unti in the glove and forget about it after tuning and have a basic clean interior. Also maft vs maft pro maft pro can control some timing so you can get a better tune.

For that pan id junk it and get a new one from toyota. When i got a new one about 5-6 years ago it was about 118 with my dealer discount. If you get on sf and go through champion or elmhurst toyota it should be about the same.

Okay so I know this is a bit of a thread revival but here goes.

Quite a bit has happened since my last update, I've gathered 99.5% of the parts needed and they're on the way or pending purchases. Funds have come and gone slowing this rebuild much more than I'd like but I figure that's life. So several hundreds to thousands of dollars later, no not spent on the engine.. well maybe 60%, this is where I'm currently at. I'm hoping that the engine will be in and running by next weekend.

I've being buying several parts from members like myself, thanks very much you guys you have no idea how much money and time you've saved me.

And now for some pictures.
p1776045_1.jpg

Royal purple all around.. The engine break-in oil is to give me ease of mind about the first few heat cycles and hundred miles.
p1776045_2.jpg

New belts and OEM clutch disk along with the NGK wires, NGK plugs were already put in gapped to .028 BRC6PES or whatever the part number was..
p1776045_3.jpg

New pressure plate bolts and pilot bearing
p1776045_4.jpg

p1776045_5.jpg

p1776045_6.jpg

Toyota red coolant as so many have advised to save the bi-metallic engine we have.
p1776045_7.jpg

And some pictures of how it sits now, waiting for all the hoses I could find, around 300 bucks worth.
p1776045_8.jpg

I was able to 'borrow' a good condition CT from a friend, stock specs though.
p1776045_9.jpg

p1776045_10.jpg

And that's where I'm at so far, hopefully and I mean hopefully I'll have it running by next weekend, then it'll be off tire shopping and brakes etc etc.. To get her ready for inspection.
