pulled a th400 yesterday. grabbed it out of a 1972 oldsmobile delta88. its a long tail(33in long), though id have prefered a short tail version(28in long) but where the mount is located is right where the tailshaft bolts to the case so it should still fit, also, from measurements ive been told of the a340e, this longtail is about the same length. the car i pulled it from was bone stock down to the factory single 2in or so exhaust on the bigblock engine with factory muffler, and factory am radio so the trans should be in pretty decent shape as there are no obvious signs of abuse, looks to be an old lady car. rust holes in the floor or it prolly still would have had the old lady smell. anyhow, ill still be rebuilding it with a b&m trans kit that includes new stronger clutches and steels, kevlar band and shift kit, etc.. ill convert it to a manual valve body at the same time. also, this thing is heavy, though if it weighs more then an r154 it isnt by a whole lot. there are pics of it at the bottom of this page. i havent cleaned it up or anything yet. once its been moded to fit the 7m ill take pics of it bolted up and also next to a w58 trans so you can see how wide it is. it should fit in the trans tunnel no problem. the case of the trans that fits in the tunnel looks skinnier then the r154. the bellhousing is way too wide though, but its getting cut off so that doesnt matter.

lmao!!!!!! you should have seen the faces of the guys at the pick and pull when they asked what i was putting it in and i told them an 84 toyota supra. they said oh you put a v8 in it, i said no, i put a 3.0 straight 6 turbo out of an 88 supra turbo in it. then they asked how was it going to fit, so i said a custom adaptor to bolt the stock auto bh to he front pump, and they just sat there scratching their heads, then asked why. i said well, the new engine im building im aiming at over 500 hp at the wheels on pump gas through the th400 and no n2o. then the holy shits started. lol. needless to say they want me to bring it up there when its done. i cant wait till the engine and trany swap are both done. gonna throw some slicks on at the track and hodl the brake while hitting the gas at the line wit hthe 3200 rpm stall, and the stiff ass supension i have, maybe ill get the nose up. itd be a badass pic to submit for the celicasupra.com calendar. thats for sure.

you mean the garrett? its a garrett gt4082. the turbine housing in the pic is a 0.95 a/r though ill be replacing that wit ha 0.68 a/r before its mounted. its stock specs right now for a gt4082. its the smaller of the 2 compressor options. i got it cheap used. so couldnt pass it up. later ill have it upgraded wit ha larger compressor wheel and housing. hehehe. as it is itll flow for ~700hp.

why is what 2 peice? the adaptor? i guess he made it that way as its faster and cheaper then making it a one peice ona 3d cnc machine. this way just cut the 2 patterns out of flate plate steel, then drill the necc holes. worked fine when he put a built th350 on his twincharged 2jz. and yes, i said twincharged. has a supecharger and a t88. hehehe.

ok, i was doing some reading, and just realized i need a kick down cable for the th400. but, i didnt have to remove one when i pulled it, and dont recall seeing anywhere for one to conect. do i have to have a kick down cable or not? i plan to make it a full manual valve body when i rebuild it, so after that it should for sure not need the kick down cable right? i just need to make sure so i dont end up messing it up.

yup. ive talked to him and asked would it be ok for me to advertise it over here and sell them to anyone that nees them as he is pretty busy and doesnt have time to keep up with it. ill prolly buy a couple to basicly have 1 or 2 on hand so that when someone needs it they can buy direct from me and receive it right away. it took me awhile to get a hold of him and then to get a quote with shipping etc.. this way anyone that needs it wont have any hassle. just pm me with your zip code and ill tell you how much it is with shipping. also, when i have more money to invest, i may start offering the block girdles as well. but for now, ill just do the trans adaptor as there are so many people interested. however all the other custom parts will be up to you, though the local tq convertor shop might be able to offer the custom tq convertors for the 7m th350/400 swap after they have made mine as they will then have the necc specs.
