all it needs is some 4.11s and a few bolt ons and i bet it would kick some ass. 400s do indeed have lots of balls even tugging a huge impala around. My grandma had that exact car when i was little except it was faded purple and everyone hated it. I used to hide when i was in it and i saw my friends. But it was fast and the sound of the 4 barrel was nice 
Its only a 2 barrel. The bigl block 402 got a 4 barrel. This car will be modded someday. Take my word

Swap a 700r4 tranny into it and you can get about 20 mpg or better. Old TH350's and 400's don't have the lock up torque converters so having an extra gear will help.

Sucks for you!! ours had a 350 and a q-jet. My dad or grandpa may have done that tho. The car had like 200k miles on it so im sure a few people messed with it. I love the loud secondaries of the q-jet. I have one on my 5 speed camaro and its pretty cool!

The 2 barrel is a 500CFM anywho. it isn't bad. Its pretty quick for what it is to be honest.
The tranny whines in 3rd gear when i'm on power, thats pretty much the only thing thats pissing me off.
I miss my cadillac very badly tho :[
