Cool project but I have one question. Does this car have almost no frame in the front or are the black things some sort of jig?

I am not running power steering so hydraboost would not work.. Having power brakes doesnt necessarily mean the car will stop faster, you just need to apply more pressure to the pedal. the frame rails are what the K-member bolts to. i extended them for the swaybar mounts here is a closeup of the extensions i added, these would normally go all the way to the bumper. the box hanging off is where the swaybar mounts.

I feel like I need to avenge that poor car and drop a 5.0L in a Supra now... :biglaugh: Then again, I do have an extra SVO drive train lying around now...

Nice job on bringing her back to life. Mad props. Any reason you went with the 85-86 nose? (I'm partial to the 83-84 front end, especially the GT version.)
Are you going to keep it 4-lug or do you plan on doing the 5-lug conversion?

The frame on the 79-93 Fox is essentially the same as the 94-04 SN95 (or FoxII) frame. Might need to flare the fenders a tad.

manual brakes wouldnt be so bad. they stop my 7000lb truck by standing on them :D

and i suppose the fox is lighter than the supra so it shouldn't be too bad.

what year motor mounts are those? i've got some on an 89 block in my shop but they're different than the 89s in my car (kinda square steel plate instead of those shapely arms)

and sorry for asking but i've been interested in the whole bastard swap deal (thinking about putting a 7mge into an old pickup):

how strong are your mount brackets?
where'd you learn to weld?
would a moderate weld on 1/4 inch steel be enough to hold a 7m's torque?

I wanted to keep it 4-eye and i got the bumper cover cheap so thats what it ended up being. i wanted a gt bumper with fogs but couldnt afford the ones i found. I just picked up some 95 spindles and 2 piston pbr's, and rotors from an 02' gt. should be on the car in about a week or two whenever i get the time. will probably stick with rear drums for now with ranger axles and drums untill i can get some North racecar brackets and rotors and calipers. I have some stock bullits from my friends 01' gt that will go on... should make a huge difference compared to the 10" 4-cyl brakes that are on it now.

The motor mount brackets are stock 89+ brackets. by mount brackets are you talking about the toyota aluminum piece or the mount that i made? The mounts i made are extremly strong, no worry that they will fail even with future plans for power.

I first started out welding at an exhaust shop that i worked at few years back. All of the welding on this car was done with a $300 lincoln flux core welder, very basic.

1/4 thick? i would say that is extreme overkill for motor mounts. I believe the metal i used is .125". It really depends on the design, if you can show me an idea i would better understand.

This is sweet. I love bastard swaps and this one was a great read, especially when it's performed by a shade tree mechanic. Thanks for posting and I look forward to more updates. :biglaugh:

I think you mean 94-98 SN95s, 99-04 are New Edges or S281s.

I understand... that crap gets expensive.

What motor did it originally have? Only the 5.0L cars had the 8.8" rear (which is what you'd want for those brakes... and in general).

it had a 3.8L v6 with TBI and 7.5" with 2.73's, it was crazy to drive with them gears with supra transmission, had to be over like 55mph to use 5th. Now it has a 8.8" with 3.73's. both 7.5" and 8.8's use same rear brakes.

Ugh, the Essex V6... bad experiences...
Good call on the rear end swap. I never bothered to check if the flanges were the same on the 7.5 and 8.8, nor have I read it. That's good to know.

Have fun with the build. I'm going to enjoy watching this.

Beyond the Ford 9in the 8.8 is one of the best out there.

Yea luckily the 7.5 and 8.8 brakes are the same.

will the way you have it mounted get good air flow?

just curious

I have read flow tests on this and where he mounted it actually gets almost the same flow and is usually cooler...also it protects the fins.
