I already have the pipe to put in an HKS SSQV and a new steel lower charge pipe to replace the stock rubber one.
I was told there are some downsides to not running a recirculated BOV, (temporary rich condition, stalling etc)
Does this happen with the HKS SSQV?
(please, no flaming for the redish vacuum line. I haven't done anything to this car yet!)

Well, yes. Unless you're get the recirculation fitting on the ssqv. Basically, if you floor the car, whenever you let off (and the BOV goes off) it's going to let off air (obviously), but since the AFM is before the turbo, the ECU has already metered that air and added enough fuel for the proper air/fuel ratio.

...and since you're going to lose some metered air from the BOV when it goes off, you'll experience a rich condition at let off/shifting. In my experience it's not a HUGE deal. Basically all that's going to happen is, for example, if you floor the car, then let off and hold the clutch to the floor, your idle will drop REALLY low (less than 500 rpms) for a sec, then it'll be fine.

I ran an RFL and an SSQV both unrecirculated for years and it didn't really bother me. You won't notice in everyday driving. Or, I didn't at least.

What if you don't have a clutch? lol I'm running a rebuilt auto trans with a shift kit.
Would the BOV not being recirculated affect acceleration at all?
Thanks for the info!

That I have no idea about. I've never had an automatic supra.

I wouldn't think so, though. In my car if I shifted fast enough it didn't bog down at all (at least I couldn't feel it if it did) so I doubt it would affect acceleration.

Of course, if you ran a maf-translator, or maft pro, or map ecu, or aem ems, blah blah blah and so on you wouldn't have that problem, since they either switch to a maf sensor (which can be mounted in the IC pipes after the bov) or they use a MAP or speed density (neither of which would be affected by a bov.

Of course, there is the inherent costs of the thing, but if it bothers you that much...

lol.

Oh man, the stories of the Vented BOV with an Auto.:: no ::
I had a vented one when my brother first got the 89 turbo. And I just got my license and was driving it around. Everytime i would floor it and let off the gas it would immediatley die. And with the electrical problems it was a pain because sometimes it wouldn't start (Glad we got rid of this supra.)it was so embarrasing. Don't know if the SSQV will react the same though?:dunno:

Man was that embarrasing now that i think of it especially when i was cruising with the top off haha. I would always get dirty looks :( and traffic sucked the most.

Anyways, with the SSQV i have now with the 5 Speed it does drop rpm's quite a bit. But jumps back to normal idle. Not much of a problem as it happens sometimes not always.

A very informative testimonial...
Maybe I'll look into finding a recirculated SSQV (if they make them) but then... Would i still hear it?
Maybe I should just freaking try it and stop cluttering an intro thread with tech questions lol
I don't know how strict they are here about things like that.

There's a link to the recirc fitting. You replace the triangular looking piece in the bov with that and it makes it to where you can connect a hose to the front.

I don't know about sound, though.

You should, this is a great place to learn. Especially since you know how to ask your questions and research what you want to know. You seem very apt to learn, so enjoy soaking up the info. Best of luck with your car; It really does look beautiful.

I've got the internal HKS EVC if you didn't already take care of that.

Your car is very beautiful! Once you've been around a while, you will learn to tell that punk kwnate to back off. He can't own all the purty blue cars. That is my favorite MKIII color. Some think I like the grey better, and I can't get away from the reds.

I'm strangely attracted to your car too, gts... I just can't explain it...
