I used to get styes ALL THE TIME.
Even though you're going to want to scratch off the head or pop it, don't. It spreads the germs and might just serve to create another one.
Warm compresses (moist washcloth) + sterile ointment created specifically for the eye (acts as a lubricant so you're not as likely to rub your eye) = relief and recovery.

I've had dirt/debris stuck in my eye. It didn't bother me much, but swelled up nicely over a few days. Eye doc removed the debris, and everything went back to normal.
