I was watching some TV, playing some Metal Gear Acid, when the game froze. "Strange" I thought, so I turned it off, then back on, only to find out that the damn thing won't read discs anymore :(

I ordered a new laser assembly, but it's going to be a few weeks before it arrives.

I think it's a sign to go pull the bottom end of my 1JZ apart......

new PSP is coming out (slimmer one) good thing i sold my old one.

But can it be modded? It'll take a while before they figure out a hack for the latest firmware I'm sure. I don't need it to be any slimmer anyway...

My PSP is modded. You don't think that I would have a normal PSP do you?

It's running an old firmware that still requires a UMD to play ISOs, and I can't update the firmware because the updater won't work without a UMD :( The only thing that still works are PSX ISOs.

Well, the reason I modded mine was so that I could play FFVII and GT2 on it, but I also like being able to fit a whole bunch of ISOs on my 4gb stick so I don't have to swap discs all the time.

I know. When I first got my psp, I updated it to 2.6 (the latest at the time), and was like... "shit". Finally, a year later, I go back and check out the modding community, and find I was sooo behind. haha.

Some places online have PSP parts. You should be able to get a new UMD tray/disc reader. It's probably the same as getting a new laser assembly for a PS2 - you just have to look for it and have the drive to crack 'er open and replace it.

Your spelling FTL. I was ignoring the post full of "FTW" and "FTL" and addressing a quick solution to the problem. What's your excuse?
