My driveshaft 'center support/carrier/anything else its called' bearing took a poop on me.
Of course i didn't change it when i did the 5-speed swap, why would i do that?:dunno:
well, it went. i raised the car up and when you spin the shaft, you can hear the rubber rubbing bad. You can also see rubber bits on the exhaust right below it from the last time i took it for a drive to try to pinpoint the problem. yeah i smelled it too.

So i'm tryin' to get a good price here like always. I searched around here and this thread..---> http://www.supramania.com/forums/showthread.php?t=60446&highlight=center+support+bearing

..claims i could get it for 125ish from online toyota
my local parts store wants 208 bucks
can anyone tell me where this is at? or if you have any more money saving ideas for me, please do chime in.

would you guys recommend buying from here? (enter PN: 3723024051)

i guess i kinda answered my question while making this post

modding? what kind of modding is that?

From AZ? It is usually the type where you buy the part, take it home, realize it wont fit or wasnt right in the first place. You take it back and the guys exclaims 'oh you wanted a carrier bearing!', we dont have that. Might try NAPA or Carquest, maybe the dealer even.

i wish i knew what brand Dumas was talking about, because i heard those modification issues with the Pioneer brand and with some other brand from AZ. The ones for sale at the zone are made by duralast. maybe its improved by then:dunno: i hope to think so. I might still go through the modification process for that reduction of price.

it has to be torqued to 125. ft lbs. theres a "lock you have to hammer with a screwdriver. look it up in the tsrm.

but get the cheap vatozone one. return shouldn't be hard for it.

Try finding a bearing shop?

my supra is a daily driver and I'm sporting a single piece driveshaft.....from shaftmasters

So you won't go single piece for an extra $100 but yet you want to cheap out on a bearing....

i dunno if you should really be sayin that, i read your carrier bearing thread saying you were thinkin about pickin up a junked one to just get done with the job. Looks like you were in a similar predicament buddy;)

So I got my carrier bearing replaced using the autozone A6002 one. There was a little modification involved, but it got done.

Removing that 134 ft/lb Nut at the end of the driveshaft was a no go in the car, so we pulled it out of the car and it worked like that.

The two shiny bolts were used with a prybar to counterhold while taking off that nut.
When it came off, it came apart.

The rubber was toast, but the bearing was friggen perfect! Smooth like buttah.

So here's the old one and the new one

so the bracket seems to be a little off :dunno:

Took the guts outta the old one.
p1079693_6.jpg

Cut in half.
Give it a little bitta weld making sure to spray it with water immediately so the rubber wont melt.
Trim the ears from the new one a little.
and Walla!

at another angle

because the bearing was now slightly higher, i had to shim it where it mounts to retain its original angle.

we thought about that, and it could work, but we were worried about making the new one fall apart in the process because of the way its put together. There are two metal rings on the grooves to hold the rubber in place, and figured it was gonna be a bitch to get right without messing the rubber up so we came up with this idea.
