Hey guys,

I had my Supra towed to a mechanic that my dad knows and hes been trying to start the damn car for a few hours now. There goes $200 lol...

Anyways he sais that it cranks 20 times, but it wont start. The battery is being charged at the same time to keep it from dying. My mechanic said that its either two things. Something with the fuel, or the coil pack/spark issue.

Anything else you can think of? Every hour that goes by is costing me $60 of wasted time lol...

Thanks guys..

that's quite the mechanic you got there...
in two hours he narrowed it down to spark or fuel lol..:3d_frown:

sounds like most mechanics out there, just trying to inflate the bill.

thats exactly what I was thinking....spark or fuel...2 hours to figure that out.

try jiggling the connectors at the cam position sensor. That will cause the car to not start.

Although charging the battery with it connected to the car is a bad thing to do it should allow codes to be read. Otherwise the battery needs to be above 11 volts. And yeah, this "mechanic" is a piece of work alright.

Fwiw many places are charging for diagnosis these days. They should too, as long as the guy doing it is competent. Why should they give away the hardest part? A monkey can change parts. Not to mention the time to diag is usually proportional to the quality of equipment available and that equipment isn't cheap. Even then diag often takes longer than repair. Not billing for it doesn't make sense in lots of ways so more and more are doing it. Just another reason to learn how yourself.

i agree 100%
i have paid someone just to tell me what's wrong before, and then replaced the parts myself,(usually electrical) that's a good way to keep cost's down sometimes..
sounds like you need to buy a TSRM and read it front to back a few times, you'd be surprised how simple things become.

GL hope you get things figured out

Dont know what your problem is, but the mechanic better not charge you for constant labor if he cant even diagnose it. Even if he finds a problem, he shouldn't charge for the hours he wasted wacking it in the back while your car sat charging.

Shitty mechanics FTMFL!

*UPDATE*

The mechanic found a problem with the wiring harness and fixed that. He said the alternator needs to be replaced, which I figured. He also said I need a new master cylinder and sleeve cylinder because its leaking and now the clutch pedal is on the floor. (Not the case when I had it towed to him lol) Anyways, he sais that the engine is smoking and its smelling. What could be the cause of these problems?
