i have a 1992 toyota supra turbo , since i just bought it, i cant stop working on it. it has a problem. the guy i bought it off had an alarm installed but never used it and he lost the key chain. but for some reason the car does not start with the turn of a key. if i push it, it startes right up and drives perfecly for a long period of time inlill i turn it off. its even boosting 8lbs.

im afriad it might be the alarm but somone told me that it could be a fulse or electricle problem with the clutch. has anyone else had this problem and can help me out. thank you very much.

Yeah, thats popstarting it. What happens when you turn the key, nothing? if so, You probably have a problem with your starter or starter circuit meaning either your started is bad, or something such as a relay went bad so your not getting power to it.

i believe its just one click

Chances are your starter is junk. however you want to make sure its not your battery or a bad connection first.
following these steps should solve your problem

try to start car after each step to see if you solved the problem.

1)check battery termial connections, make sure they are clean and tight.

2)remove and test your battery. most autopart stores will test your battery to see if its good, but its not always the most reliable test. Try putting someone elses battery in your car. If it starts your battery is junk.

3) Check the connections on the starter. The starter is located on the intake side of the engine going into the transmission bellhousing. make sure all cables/wires are clean and tightly, make sure the engine is grounded too (wire connecting engine to chassis).

4)If you've made it this far chances are your starter is junk. replace it, dont throw out the old one as the autoparts store takes a "core charge" which is additional money they hold until you bring the old one back.

Good luck, let me know how it works out.

It could be bad old wiring. There is a recent thread on a relay to replace the bad wiring. I'll try to find you a link.****EDIT****http://www.supramania.com/forums/showthread.php?t=76403&highlight=starter+relay

In the mean time, you can take the wiring harness plug lose, and then take the battery cable off, and touch it to the contact on the starter solenoid where you took the harness plug out. If the starter turns over, it is good. Be very careful that the car is not in gear, and you have jack stands under the car.

You could also try to jump the car off with another know good battery. Do this first before jacking up the car. Sometimes if the wiring is weak, the extra battery supplies enough to push through the bad wiring.

If it was bad wiring i dont think she would get the click from the starter, however its probably still a good idea to test the started like forcedtorque said.

The click does not come from the starter, rather the starter relay in the passenger kick panel in most cases. That tells you that the ignition is working, and it is all on the harness from there. If the starter turns whenever you apply direct power to the solenoid, and you have the relay click, then it must be bad wiring. This would be when the relay in the link I posted would be beneficial.

I cured this problem by swapping my entire wiring harness out for one that was bought new from toyota and used about a year. That harness cleared up 3-5 problems I had all at one time.

Also, if the starter is found to be the problem, take that starter to a rebuild shop. The 91-92 have threaded bolt holes that make changing the starter much easier. If you just buy a rebuilt, it probably will not have the threads. Then you will have to add nuts on the opposite side of the starter like the earlier cars.

And another point that still hasn't been made. If you have an inoperable aftermarket alarm system, you probably want to remove it.

1) Clear codes.

2) Hold the key to start when push starting.

3) Check for new codes.

A quick way to check most of the starter circuit. It's not 100% but eliminates a lot of things...

im sorry what?
im confused

so start the car then what?
