Hello, I bought my car around 3 months ago or so. It didn't run when I bought it, but now it starts and dies immediately. I have adjusted the tps correctly, cleared all the codes, replaced the afm, and tested for boost leaks. I can't seem to find the problem. I can get the car to stay on if I rev it for about 10 or 15 seconds but then it idles from 1000 rpms to 2000 rpms by itself. Could the timing maybe be off? I'm sort of a noob when it comes to working on cars. Also I'd be willing to pay someone in the St. Pete/Tampa area to come fix it for me. If anyone knows a reasonable shop around St. Pete, FL that could fix it too let me know. Thankyou for looking. Please help me.

Do you have any error codes? It can be intake leaks, Idle speed Control (the ISC), timing, spark plugs and so on. After you check for engine codes, see what your timing actually is and then check your ISC valve.

I'll try to check it out. As I said I'm kinda of a noob. I cleared all the error codes. I have also changed the spark plugs and have tried two different isc's that I've taken apart and cleaned.

Did you read the codes and write them down before clearing them?

Since the car starts, I will assume your starter, igniter, AFM, spark plugs, spark plug wires and fuel pump are fine.

Are you using a multimeter to check for voltage and ohms as is stated in the manual (TSRM)? If it is not the TPS or the ISC, then check for any intake leaks. If this is a turbo, there is a rubber accordian hose that breaks down and tears over time (as an example). Are you sure your timing is 10 degrees? The CPS (Cam Position Sensor) has to be set just right too.

From what you said about the RPMs fluctuating it has to be the Idle Speed Control or the Throttle Position Sensor.

How long does the car stay on after starting on its own (a few seconds)? Do the RPMs fluctutate (up and down like it is revving on its own) and then the car stalls?

Its a 1987 turbo. When it starts on its own, it turns back off immediately. I have to make sure that the cps and timing are right when I have a little more time to check them. I used a multimeter to adjust the tps and did it correctly. I've cleaned and tried two different isc's before.

Are you absolutely positive your AFM works is it brand new or did you buy it used because I had a similar problem where my car would shut off right away.
Make sure all hoses are connected turn on the car and listen for hissing sounds haha and make sure your AFM is plugged in!
Let us know what happens =)

I bought an afm off someone on here. He said it worked. I think the one I had on there was a lex afm.

Hmmm well if you have any buddy that live around you with a Supra like yours just test the afm you have on there car, okay?
