Here's some more work I did on the motor.

Took off some more junk off the head.
Here's the EGR cooler
p1314302_1.jpg

p1314302_2.jpg

Some various brackets
p1314302_3.jpg

p1314302_4.jpg

p1314302_5.jpg

p1314302_6.jpg

Camshafts as well
p1314302_7.jpg

p1314302_8.jpg

Now the gear on the camshaft is a bit scratched...is it good to take it to the shop before I reassemble back in with the head...or just get new cams haha?

Now back to the block.
Starting with some miscellaneous stuff.
Here is the fuel return stuff off.
p1314302_9.jpg

p1314302_10.jpg

PS bracket up next
p1314302_11.jpg

p1314302_12.jpg

Now the piping around the block.
p1314302_13.jpg

p1314302_14.jpg

p1314302_15.jpg

Now to the crank pulley!!
p1314302_16.jpg

Bolt came off like nothing...three hits with an impact!!
p1314302_17.jpg

p1314302_18.jpg

This is where it got hard...I went back and forth between stores to rent a total of like 3 crank pulley puller kits!
Here's the one that finally helped...it didn't even do the job. Just helped
p1314302_19.jpg

LUCKY CHARMS FTL!!!

Then my second idea was this (very bad one might I add).
p1314302_20.jpg

So I'm assuming you can guess what happened?

First idea failed me miserably so I got aggravated and pulled out this.
p1314303_1.jpg

And with a little time, patience, and brute force it came off!
p1314303_2.jpg

You can see here what happened with the first idea.
p1314303_3.jpg

p1314303_4.jpg

So anyone have an extra crank laying around?! I'll be needing one...sigh.
Up next, off came the belt and the tensioner along with the spring
p1314303_5.jpg

p1314303_6.jpg

p1314303_7.jpg

This is where I'm at now
p1314303_8.jpg

p1314303_9.jpg

and now off with the oil driveshaft gear.
p1314303_10.jpg

p1314303_11.jpg

p1314303_12.jpg

This thing came off next and finally the cover itself!
p1314303_13.jpg

p1314303_14.jpg

Tadaaa

Looking good! About the machining, the only reason you want the timing belt tensioner torqued down is because it supposedly slightly distorts the # 1 cylinder, so you want to simulate a fully assembled engine when getting it machined. Also, for your machine shop, you just need to ask them what surface finish they will be able to get on the deck, measured in arithmetic average (Ra). Depends on the gasket you are going to use, but most call for an Ra of 30 or less. The smaller the number the smoother.

Thanks CyFi, I'll ask the shop next time I'm there.

So far I got a quote on how much everything will be.

Deck and hone the block - 160
Install new freeze plugs - 35
Resurfacing the head along with a valve job - 210
Polishing the crank - 35
Installing new exhaust studs - 35

So it'll be about 450 for all the machine work.
There's a huge chump going into the engine; I think that is the last huge bill I gotta pay for this engine >_<

Are you going to be getting new stock pistons and rings? I didn't notice that in the list of parts you were getting...

You might as well freshen up those as well while you've got the engine apart and doing the machine work. Or at least get the cylinders honed and get new piston rings

Yep, sorry forgot to update my list. Yeah I'm getting new rings and pistons. Trying to decide which to get though...I want to get OEM toyota AISIN, but I can't seem to find them?

I keep finding oem toyota NPR...and if they're NPR I might as well get them off ebay mizumo for like $40 instead of $180 from toyota.

Anyone want to chime in?

You made kicking progress so far. I'd turbo tho.. The dash job in a day shows serious patience.

Keep up the good work.

Bah. Nothing wrong with a good old fashioned non-turbo car.

Yep I agree with Moy. I love the sound of NA and plus I do not want to deal with the turbo maintenance at the moment. This car is to be my daily driver and sort of my fun car. If I somehow end up blowing this 7m, then yeah I'll get a turbo motor :icon_bigg

But since I'm new to toyota, I want to start off with the 7m. Plus no lag :naughty:

Haha sorry I have no clue what those wheels are! All of them came with the car when I bought it. I have been trying to figure out (not really). I know the backs are konigs...

I got these little alien punks out.
It was like my engine was giving birth...I kept pushing, and some liquid would drip...and you get the idea. and POP the alien comes out!

Did some reorganizing
p1315903_4.jpg

And started to degrease the pistons...
p1315903_5.jpg

Didn't do too much, but it doesn't look like I can salvage these pistons; they're horrible. More of that to come.

It's been a while but I was never able to finish my engine in time to swap it in before the current engine in my car blew. So had to pull the engine out and still prep my second motor for the shop.

Here are some pics of the engine being pulled.

Hey dude- Be advised; it looks like the engine you're building is out of a Cressida, not a Supra. The only issue is that you'll have to replace the oil pump with the Supra type, and use the oil pan from your blown motor. The oil pickup on the Cressida's pump, and the shape of the oil pan would interfere with your Supra's crossmember. Maybe someone else can confirm this?

That was before I decided to get new pistons haha; the list on the first page is an updated one ^^. After I degreased the pistons I knew I needed new ones lol.

Still question about the cressida/supra thing. Anyone wanna chime in?
