Okay I think im gonna go for it. Its just not engaging enough with my Automatic. My friend is getting his Hachi done at a place near me, Dublin transmission and I am going to go talk to the owner on monday to see if he can get me an R154. Or a W58 if its VERY much cheaper.

Few little questions.
In anyones experience/oppinion How much should an imported R154 or W58 cost?

Ill tell him I need the driveshaft, the Master cylinder and all the reelated stuff. Ill need to get a clutch pedal assyembly and a brake pedal. Hopefully all this stuff can be recived by the shop.

Anyone else in the Bay Area CA know of another Tranny shop to get a price quote at?

Thanks

Thats what I was thinking. I told my mom the idea. Why would you want to dot hat! The car works fine! She doesnt understand that it isnt as fun to drive!

I felt embarassed when my friend with a 3000gt with rod knock pulled ahead of me after a 60mph rolling start...

I was thinking to myself that I should do this myself and get the expereience but I quickly changed my mind. I would rather shove the cash out for the tranny shop to do it. I would end up screwing somthing up.

I am so excited to see if I can gt this done... Abiet me stalling for a little bit when im larnin the tranny lol.

yeah i was all for the idea of swapping to a 5speed. all pumped and ready to go cuz i saw a good deal to get this done...my folks and my sister said it was the dumbest idea....but then i decided to back out when i realized theres still some more work i should put into the ol' 7m and the body. so for now ill keep kickin ass with my auto, and then ill swap and kick more ass while having more fun doing it.

If you have a place to do the work, the tools, and can live without the car for a while do the work yourself. You will learn so much and be so satisfied that you did it.
Having a shop do it will get expensive quick. But if you are going to have a shop do the work, a shop that does motor swaps and is used to working with modifing cars may be a better idea than "Joe's Transmissions" just because they will probably have never done it either, and might jack up the price. Just ask around and get quotes from different shops.

Dublin transmission does Engine swaps as well. My friend got a bad rod knock in his 85 Hachi and is having a small port 4a thrown in. Were gonna tear down his big bore 4a and learn about her... But other than that.

I really wish I had the time to do the swap on my own time. Ive got SOME tools but not everything I would need. I am only 17 and do need a car. (Hey its summer) Ill look for some other local shops but the people at this one were so friendly... Thanks for the input guys!

I come from a land down under
Hells: Live with the Auto for this Summer and swap in the manual over Winter! ;) ("Simple" things with Supra's tend to take much longer for some reason and no way do you want to be without it all Summer)

I may just have to wait untill summer IJ. Having no money really doesnt help my situation!

Also ive been doin some readin... Do I need to switch out my ECU or can I just do somthin with the wiring.. I read that somewhere earlier today. Would my most trouble free option be to find an ECU as well?

A good write up can be a big help in deciding if a major project is something you are able or willing to take on. I've looked everywhere, but never seen a step by step and list of parts. Is there one out there that could help Hells (and me) on this? Just don't smack me if I missed something obvious in a search. :hs:
