Well here it is my 3rd blown tranny within two summers. Happened this morning before work. It all started when I replaced my factory clutch 50k original mileage to an ACT 6-puck unsprung and a lighter flywheel. I will of course use a heavier one. Ive been eating through trannys bad. Im no expert with supras yet but I can now change my trannys pretty damn fast now. Can some one chime in their 2 cents on what the hell is going on. I have a feeling its the clutch. I havent at all beat the hell out of the last two because of pricey trannys and high gas prices. I took extra special care of this last one with a lot of rolling starts no gas. So I guess now is the time to do that bottom end rebuild Ive been wanting to do, maybe a T56 tranny, I dont know yet. Lets hear it.

Well, a clutch is supposed to gradually engage engine torque. A superstrong one will give your trans a loading shock if you dump the clutch.

Or learn to disengage the clutch when shifting.

Or maybe quit shifting like a gorilla.

So how exactly is it blown?

I come from a land down under
T56 won't even be close to fitting without major work.....

What's better to tear up a softer clutch or to destroy trannies?
(ie: is there a reason you "need" an unsprung disc)

Ok if no one is going to ask how much torque he makes I will.

HOW much torque do you make there freight train?

A lot less than its rated for. Around 300 ft/lbs. It's apparent I need a more suitable clutch. Any suggestions. Im still running the stock ct26 at 12.5 lbs Oh an when I mean blown I mean grabbing the input shaft and jiggling it around.

we both know your over 700 ;)

Well without slipping clutch yes it would be over 700TQ :) I would only have to guess that many people are running high mileage transmissions to be breaking them this easy.

I've read that unsprung clutches are hard on trannies, but it was my understanding this was reffering to long term effects. How exactly did it break? (sorry if you posted this, i didn't see it).

I have never personaly broke a r154 I know people somtimes get a little aggressive with the sawzaw when making themselves a short shifter and make it to short thus when shifting not quite getting it all the way in gear... particularly when trying to shift hard and fast

I run a unsprung clutch with no problems

suprasized and tun_x what diff's do you run? LSD or Torsen?

Its a long shot but a torsen prolly wouldn't help the problem otherwise im kinda dumb founded with the infomation so far.. R154's are weak trannys blowing one without even trying is a bit weird. unless it was REALLY REALLY badly maintained ie. no oil lol

3 R154's down the sink hole sucks dude :(
