Ive been trying to sort out the problems with a 1jz I just swapped into a mkIII supra. I bought the ecu and engine together and the tune was said to run stable on the current setup; stock 1jzgte vvti motor, stock single, 650cc inj, Walbro 255 w/stock regulator, Haltech Platinum Sport 1000 ecu, giant 4" fmic. Started first try and idles perfectly at 1000 rpm but things got worse from there. Engine revs fine sitting idle however under load it stutters and cuts out untill about 2000 rpm and then will pull to about 3500 rpm and begin to cut out again, sounds almost like hitting rev limiter. This must be done with the throttle <20% or the engine will simply cut out, at times you can finesse the throttle and complete a decent pull from a dead stop to about 6k in 1st and 2nd (must remain <20% throttle) but when you get to third it become impossible to rev over 3500ish again. I pulled the plugs and thought they looked a little black so I installed a wide-band to see if it was going too rich. However afr's stay in check, 14ish at idle to 11.7 under boost and high rpm. Now I'm not sure what to try Ive checked ignition module connections and all seem perfect COPs look solid when running voltage never drops below 14.7. I also tried increasing the dwell, lowering boost from 15psi to 6psi, disabling vvti all with no results.
Also once the engine is up to running temperature it no longer likes to idle smoothly, it develops a lope from 600-1100 with afr's going from 12-17. This is with o2 control on however disabling it does nothing. The cut-out problem also seems to worsen as the engine warms up. I've searched for boost leaks but cant find any, and I'm at a loss as to what to try next. If anyone can offer any suggestions I would very much appreciate it, thanks in advance.

i have a 1jz vvti on a 91 mk3 supra, its purely stock tho with stock turbo, injectors etc, from all my research, i have found that this motor will give the symptoms you are describing if the wrong spark plugs are used. You can try these plugs, NGK BKR6E gapped down to 0.8mm or denso PK20TR11, the denso's can be picked up at your local autozone etc, they are the same plugs that the 2005 camry uses. I'd try that before anything else.
