Well to make a long story short after having two MKIIIs and a total of 5 BHGs I've decided to take the route of the 1J. The BHGs arn't the main reason for it but deffinently part, the 7M just hasn't been kind to me and after reading and reading about the 1J it's deffinently the route I want to go. Also around my area there arn't many if any that I know of which deffinently helped with the decision of going this route. I'm starting this thread now so it won't be one of those that prolong over months. It's just the basic swap with some minor performance upgrades for the time being. It'll basically be a lot of pictures of the progress but this is the prelude.

First things first my car....It's an 87 7MGTE Targa that I bought from a member on this forum:

Its a simple process there were very minimal things to get loose. Just getting all the lines undone and double checking everything was detached that needed to be.

p903513_2.jpg

And she's ready just need to unbolt the two motor mounts and hook up the cherry picker!
p903513_3.jpg

Time to get serious and hook up the chain:evil2:

And here she comes.

The bitch about my garage is its short so the hoist wouldnt fit under so we had to lower it down I got in the engine bay and helped hoist the tranny over the front end:cry:

As of today I have been informed my 1J has been sent to the loading dock to ship thanks to Jose (Soapra) and is on the way to me!:icon_bigg In the mean time i still need to pull out the wiring harness completely with ecu and buy all necessary seals, hoses and belts. I will update everything as frequestnly as possible but it should hopefully be up and running ready for Texas:icon_evil.

Good work man. Any plans for the car itself? Good job w/ the pictures man let us know what all you have to buy/change/install for the 1j to work, sort of a reference for those interested in the swap.

Looking forward to seeing this thing done.

CONGRATS! on the beginning of all he hard work involved with the swap!

a little question... are you going to paint the inside walls??? cuz i see that you had that lovely brown paint job....

just a suggestion.... paint it... before you install the engine...etc... and wont have access to it ever again.....

Thanks, as of right now my plans are for a successful swap:icon_bigg. I haven't thought too much about power goals but I'm definitely for now trying to get the most power out of the stock bottom end reliably. It'll obviously cut down on how reliable it is but they are very strong motors. Money into building it will have to be saved up as i just did a complete build on my old talon and a lot went down the drain when my timing jumped:3d_frown:. So for now just bpu's.

I'm definitely going to keep an update on it hopefully to help out other guys looking into the swap.

That was my plan for some reason I seem to purchase cars that have that, my talon was black with a silver engine bay:nono:, so when I was building my motor I painted the engine bay it turned out well...

Thanks man, I believe it will be too I don't think I know of any you don't see many if any around here. Supramaniac lives in Delaware but is in search for a supra, and Boostedmkiii and myself live around the Polaris area. That 4th pic is in front of Advance Auto on 23 where he works(Polaris).

good luck on the swap.

Thanks a lot man, I hope George has good luck with the turbo setup he went with. Definitely sounded like a great guy when I briefly talked on the phone with him.
