The gauge didnt pinout, it was 1/4 inch above normal if anything.

Unfortunately the stock gauge is basically useless. After installing an aftermarket gauge its pretty funny to see what the stock gauge considers 'normal' range. In a supra, if the gauge moves at all after its warmed up, something is wrong.

No kidding... 120C and it doesn't move more than 1mm elevated from normal.

Thats wierd, when mine overheated it would pin out really fast. Good luck with whatever you decide to do and don't be hastey, practice safety ;)

if this was the case, you likely had a sticky thermostat or an EXTREMELY buggered head gasket.

When i blew my head and it started to overheat I turned it off imediately. Let it cool back down and went to the store and got a gallon of water filled her back up. I had to still get home which was a good 3 or 4 miles so i babied it and shut it off let it cool down several times before i got home. I opened her up and she wasn't in bad shape compared to some of the other BHG's i have seen on here. I guess im just wondering how could you watch the gauge pin out and not shut it off? When it happened to me i was freaking out trying everything i could to save my motor. You must have just wanted an excuse to swap, lol.

.....He was going up the mountain from PHX, there isnt a store for miles once your halfway up the mountain, how is he suppose to cool it down then go get water?

I suppose if he had a jug of water in his car this all could of been avoided. Buts its a 92 teal. and 92 teals do not carry any emergency roadside kits. =]

Been there done that, I lost a 7M once when one of the temp wires was unplugged, the "HEAD GASKET" blew and it overheated so bad the motor quit running and the gauge was only sitting at 1/4. But as Jono said stock gauge is usless.

Live and learn, but its just a car not like you killed a person, It's just another 7M, pull it out put another one in.

That means nothing. Running with no fan while you're driving doesn't matter, the fan is needed most when you're stopped, and of course an intact fan shroud helps as well. ;)

You can run a 7M with no fans too, so long as you keep moving, just like with most motors.

Yes it does.... lol considering it was +37 in traffic.

regardless my point is 7m's run waaaay too hot for what they are.

my 7m never ran "hot" it was always at Normal operating temp. This went for my 1JZ as well. If its running "hot" your cooling system isn't up to par. All motors create heat, turbo cars create more under hood temps and put more strain on the cooling system. If neglected it will run "hot"

Yeah, if you're running a stock 20 year old radiator, never change the coolant, and don't have a fan shroud...

my 7mge overheated i was only about a mile from my house so i just drove it home turning it off and coasting to stops, half way there the needle was maxed out pasted the red i got home an there was a crap load of smoke coming out from under the hood i though i was done with the motor. drove it to work the next morning fixed the leaking hose added coolent and its still my daily driver that happend a couple weeks ago.

and air in the system will cause the needle to go up not drop i think, so either your temp gauge is bad or i dont know but it doesnt make sense to me

are you sure maybe the oil made the wires stick, just wouldnt want you to pull the motor apart and find nothings wrong

Ya I had to basically pry the plugs out. 2 and 5 were the ones that melted the most so im guessing that those are the pistons that ended at TDC or closest. Heres a pic of number 2 that I could not get out and resulted in tearing the boot. Also the smell when I open the oil cap and the radiator match, kind of a really sour smell??
