Coil is around $40 iirc. its pretty easy to wire in as well. You can use the two wires that go to the stock coil. With the key on, engine off (KOEO), one wire will be hot when tested with a test light, and the other ground. The blaster is marked as to where each go. I cut the wires a couple inches back from the stock plug so I could wire it back in if I needed to switch back, and used hook type connectors to put them on the blaster coil. Mounting it is the complicated part... I'll have to look again to see how I did it.

How much difference high performance plugs and wires will vary depending on the ones you're running now. If you're running cheapie or old wires and a strong advance it can make a huge difference when you get into the higher RPM range. A performance ignition can only perform to its potential if the rest of the system is up to the task.

I'm not saying it's not worth it, but I think your money may be better spent elsewhere first. If everything else is up to par, go ahead... let us know how it works out.

This sounds doable to me. It also sounds better than the box for me...., maybe not for some of you. I want to do a bit of everything in this car. One of my buddies has a fairlady z here in town he is also na. I want to smoke this guy at the track after I get this thing running. Even if I don't I will still be in the top 5 of the faster cars here in town. There's one guy here in town that has an rx7 that turbo charged. He's the top.

i noticed way better throttle response, better high rpm pull and about 5 more mpg. I'm using the msd sci and a blaster coil w/ tach adatper.

What do u mean gauge? the tach adapter just allows for the stock to work properly with the msd ignition, otherwise your tachometer would be dead. I have timing at stock at the moment, with stock ignition. When i get my supra back on tuesday, im gonna slap it on and see how it works. I may advance timing to 12* BTDC and run 91+ octane... but i may keep it at 10* BTDC and run 87 octane.... I'm trying to get the best possible milage... even after the rebuild and 4,000 miles on the engine... it's getting 20mpg on the highway.... after msd, it should go up alot... since i noticed 5-10 more mpg avg... on my old spun rod bearing beat the hell up 7mge before...

My '87 holds 22 mpg on the highway with a shot of Lucas, maybe 20 flat without. I swear that stuff does wonders for mileage.

Or maybe my injectors just need cleaning. Doubt it, since the last 9 fill ups included Lucas and 5 were on a non-stop trip to Charloette County, Florida... nothin' like constantly running the engine at 3k to help ungunk crap.

If that MSD really helps get the mileage to 26+ MPG, it'll soooooooooooooooooooooooo be worth it. So be sure to tell us how your mileage responded. :D

I'de be surprised to get better than 20mpg because the engine makes about 200 ft. lb. of torque at 4800rpm so it's making over 100lb ft. of torque at 3-3500rpm at 70mph on the 7mge and w58 with a 4.30 LSD. My honda gets over 30mpg in town but only has like 45 ft lb of torque at 3500rpm because it only makes 110ft/lb of torque at 5200rpm. The supra just has way to much low end torque for good gas milage. If the power band was spread more to high rpm it would get better gas milage since it won't be making so much torque at low rpm.

Or 4.30 open in my case.

Well, perhaps swapping in a 3.73 Turbo rear would be the first step? We should dedicate a thread to tips for increasing NA mileage.

Show the Turbo boys we drive 'em daily 'cause we CAN. (afford to) :naughty:

Either way, the factory highway rating is 24 MPG, and you gotta keep in mind that the engine's only putting out 100+ ft/lbs of torque IF the gas is floored...
