Moving out of state

OK guys, some more chaos added to my life tonight and we've decided to move out of state SOON (2-3 weeks).

We're looking to move anywhere on the East Coast, but preferably a state with no emissions or where my 1983 Supra is emissions exempt. (Which I think is only Massachusetts after doing a little Googling, damnit!) :icon_conf

I'm going to be doing a lot of searching online, but if anyone has any good suggestions with housing/jobs it would be much appreciated. Hubby is a maintenance man, can do anything from electrical, to a/c, to plumbing, has been the only maintenance man for a high rise condo for the past 3 yrs. Also worked as an electrician, a/c tech and auto mechanic, but is not licensed for anything currently.
Would be nice to get him a job $13/hr+ and housing no more than $$1,100/mo. (3bdrm prf) We have a 10 month old Siberian Husky so that's another factor.

Any help/suggestions would be greatly appreciated

I'm paying $1,500 a month right now for a 3 bed 2 bath and 1.5 acres of land.

One of the MANY MANY reasons why we're moving

$1500 a month rent up here is around average :icon_conf

suppose it has a little something to do with the industry up here. you should move to alberta. no emissions, if you are in ft mac like me you can go join the labourers union or O.E. if you have equipment tickets. then its off to the mines/refineries for 20+ dollars an hour :icon_razz

its a boring life and a strange town, but you can make money here :biglaugh:

Rent for me is $430/mo. Its a huge house turned into 2(duplex) right in a lovely neighborhood surrounded by a bunch of $300,000+ houses with a bunch of old folks...how the hell did this happen? lol

heh...move to wyoming. No emissions regulations at all, hell you don't even have to have a windsheild (but you do have to have wipers, good combo huh?) to be street legal.

housings a little expensive around here, but if he's a maintenence man I'm sure he'd have NO problem finding a $20/hr job.

^that sounds pretty good except for the fact that NY does emissions testing to cars 25 yrs old or older. I cannot afford to buy a new EGR system or catalytic converter and I REFUSE to give up my Supra

I think Mass is going to be the only place I can move to on the East Coast besides FL

That will get you a one bedroom apartment where I'm at. I was thinking that it was not much to want to pay for rent.

Massachusetts FTW woohoo!!
No I'm kidding. I never knew we were the only ones who don't do emissions for 25+ cars...I figured if ours was 25 most others would be 20 or 15, we get the shaft on everything else.
My dad sells houses, Give me a call if you decide to make the move:naughty: lol.
Any reason you want to get out of FL?

lol Mass is 20 years, everyone else is 25. Bastards. We don't have good enough credit to buy a new car, let alone a house so that option is out. Renting is really our only choice.

I'm from Mass, I hate FL. Hubbys family is acting like a pack of wolves and his job of 3 years (his boss is his uncle) just went way sour. Those are just some of the MANY reasons why we want out...

If we can't find anything good elsewhere, we'll probably end up in Central or Northern FL.

It's easy to get a sticker in maine, some places don't even put your car on a lift!!!! As for emissions testing I've been driving for five years and have had 8 cars on the road and I've never been tested once. I have heard of some places doing it but if you go to the right place your all good.

We pay $675 a month for a 2 bedroom house and city water. The rent gets split 3 ways so I only pay $225 + other bills.

ashtabula county ohio (where I currently live) no test for any car period, no visual, no probe. The only thing you can get is a "fix it ticket" where if you get pulled over and you have no cat or no muffler or something like that they give you 30 days or whatever to fix it and then go check in at the police station. I've never actually heard of anybody getting one of those tickets though. 89 supra no egr, bic open dp, no cat, holes in the muffler...no problems :) There's really nothing in this county though, north on the lake are the cities, and then every other city in ash. county is farm land. Lots of meth labs though! haha

I've said it before and I'll say it again, VA, is great...stay away from the larger cities and you get a house/mobile home for 350/month, (2-3 bedroom etc..) Emissions...yeah right...visual check underneath is about as far as it goes...cost of living is decent. I make 8.50/hr and I can just about suppost myself....There's alot of work for a maintence man in this are too..

check out www.blueridgehelpwanted.com or some other online job offer sites and search in Va....it's a wonderful place to live, and you'll have folks like me and mwebber to help with the supra.

Im not sure where in South Florida you live, but Broward County is really nice. I live in Plantation. Lots of good job opportunities. Great shopping. I live 5 mins away from Sawgrass Mall, 2 mins away from a Publix, Winn-Dixie, Blockbuster, Starbucks, Antonios Pizza, Subway, etc.... Goodluck with whatever you decide. Lots of housing being built as well. Not sure on the prices. But I'm sure there are some good ones if you look them up. My brother lives in the Summit in Plantation. It's about $1200 a month for a really nice apt. with a garage. Thats the only place that I'm pretty sure about the price.
