If I remember correctly, drjonez's was an Abflug replica, which he has since replaced with an OEM unit. I also have an Abflug replica, and an OEM unit en route from Aussieland. My Abflug piece has studs 'glassed to the back.

^^^^ looks like mine but this one has a 1" tab running along the bottom of it. I guess I could cut that off then gule some studs to the back of it. I like the stud idea.

I started out with the Raceone A duct and didn't like the fit (there wasn't a straight edge anywhere on the duct) I bought an other replica from somewhere else and was not at all impressed with its quality either (it didn't have the lower tab). I finally came accross a genuine Turbo A Duct and jumped on it. I've heard the Abflug is by far the best replica (maybe Shaeff would sell you his). But if not then fiberglass in some studs and be prepared for some serious sanding to get the Raceone to fit well.

If you look on the inside of the bumper cover there are markings that show where to cut/drill for the OEM duct. I didn't notice these until it was too late, so I ended up fabbing up some aluminum bar brackets.

The duct sits a tiny bit high an slightly crooked

You can see the studs, and could bond them in in the same general area, the replica is stiffer and won't need as many though.

cut out the bumper with a cut-off wheel and a big grinder (36 grit):

And bolted it back on the bumper cover:

I pulled it back off and put a coat of paint on it to keep the rust in check.

Pic of the brackets I used to bolt the duct to the bumper skin:

Well got the bumper cut out today. Will try and get the bumper cover cut and duct mounted tomorrow. Dose any one have a pic of a real (1 of the 500) turbo-A front bumper support?

Time to use the small BFH to remove the cross supports.

just cut the same on the other side and your done:) It took close to 2 hrs. to cut and grind the bumper

A little rattel can paint to make it all look good

Time to install bumper to see what it will look like and if it will help.

New home for oil cooler, and a new fabed hood latch stay bracket since the oem one had to be removed to make place for the intercooler. Also had to add a couple 90 bends to the oem oil cooler hard lines to reach the new home of the oil cooler. I almost think a pre 89 bumper wil have better air flow but o-well i like the 89+ better.

Yep i think more air will go throu the intercooler and oil cooler:)

note that i've always had an OEM duct, the install docs on my site are for the OEM.

i've sold a few OEM and ABFlug replicas over the years...

Ah, I was unaware of that. I thought you started with the Abflug, then found an OEM. :)

My mistake.

abflug is by far the best outside of the OEM one...

really need to find a vendor that is willing to order all the abflug stuff for me, or at least give me a price to save up to...
