Fowards? Facing the front of the motor with the notches facing intake side? Correct?

Mounted properly?

btw i found my directions. But there is no offset on our pistons from what i can see, like in their examples. So far am I on the right track?

Thanks IJ now that Im headed on the right track I'll assemble the rest.

Justin: Perfect :)!

Intake Valve notches are usually bigger than Exhaust ones if the pistons aren't marked forward like yours!

I use a Castrol LMM grease it's a Moly product a bit like the ARP grease and anywhere there is metal to metal contact I give a smear!

It's really IMPORTANT though if you use it to swap out the Oil Filter within the first 50>100 miles as this gunk will block it!

thanks for the heads up IJ I'll be out by my store today and see if we have that castrol I dont think we do. We got some other name brand assembly lube. I'll hit up autozone, advanced, and snapa napa.
Now I'll get to tackle the ring gap later! I'll pm ya sometime about that later

It may be just the angle of the picture but I see an offset. Either way, you have them mounted right. Good luck on this build up :bigthumb:

Make sure you soak the piston rings ( piston first obviously ) in the oil you will be using on break in ( preferably something REALLY THICK, and NON SYNTHETIC) for a couple of hours.

It causes the rings to expand ( believe it or not metal is porus ) and moreso to be saturated in oil so upon the first start there is a better seal ( higher compression). Its imperitive!

Ron you would be correct. There is a slight angle to the picture but i picked up another one and thats right i see it now. Thanks for pointing that out! Always good to know I was looking somewhere totally different for the offset.
Thanks for the wishes Ron and same goes to you buddy!

Also thanks Jonathan for that information as well! I will be using Castrol 10 w40 non synthetic.(of course) but im sure some people out there use synthetic to break in their motors and we all know that isnt a great idea!
Thanks agian!!!

Yep, your going to have to "muscle" those on. Nothing really to latch on as you said.

One thing I have learned from working on many different cars is that they are all the same. BRUTE FORCE sometimes is the only answer.:biglaugh:

I guess I didnt really see what you were asking. I have seen a few people that didnt know how the wristpin goes inside when it is just as big.

You need a snap ring plier set. There will be several to chose from in a good set.

You dont need oil on the rings. Racers often use ATF for the reasons Siman mentioned. They do it seat the rings immediately to limit blowby and shorten break in so they have maximum power by the time of the race. Oil may cause it to not seat at all.

Justin: Sorry was out working in the shed!

See the cutout in the piston?

Feed one end of the Clip into the groove so the cut out is past the cutout then push a bit more in with your fingers.

Then you can use a metal scriber or small screwdriver to lever the rest in being careful NOT to slip and gouge the piston!

It could be worse they could have specced Double Spirolox like Ross do ;)!

Snapping those clips in is not that hard.

Slide the clip in sideways and push the other end in with a flathead screw driver and it should pop right in. Don't force it in, you stab it, it'll slip and stab you back.
