I'm curious about this too. I have a 7M-GTE and I put on a new HG. Everything was fine for about a month. Then, slowly, it started running bad at operating temp. I had a code 51 so I tried resetting but it didn't change anything. I also tried unplugging the O2 sensor and resetting but that didn't change anything either.

So far that is all I've done to it and I'll be working on it more this week trying to figure it out. BUT it would be nice if someone could just tell me so I don't spend hours doing unnecessary work.

I don't mean to be hi-jacking your thread but it seems like we may be having the same issue. If I find out this week what is going on I'll be sure to let you know.

If you have code 51, check your Throttle Position Sensor.

Chances are, your ECU thinks your throttle is open, so it's not operating the Idle Speed Control correctly.

Could be as easy as re-adjusting the TPS.

I checked out my TPS today. Measured the resistances. All were working except one: E - V (I can't remember if that's the correct label). The connection was open between the two (between pins 1 and 4) instead of reading ~4.5Kohms.

I unplugged the TPS and it idled "ok" with a slight miss (this is after it was at operating temp.). I tried to drive it but as soon as there was a significant load it would just die as though it was starved for air/fuel or getting too much fuel, although there wasn't a smell of fuel :\

Anyway, I'm going to get some new plugs and wires tomorrow. Inspecting them should give me something of an idea about what is happening and hopefully lead to a solution.

Boosthard - I'll be sure to let you know if I find anything that might help you out.

Thanks for the pointer Grim.
