Motor mounts

So it was weird. When I pulled my engine on my 7mgte, the motor mounts just came right off. Both sides just fell. I'm asumming these were original mounts on my 89. So does anyone think they just broke bc there original? I never noticed any unusual vibrations before pulling motor. And then, what motor mounts should they be replaced with?oem or aftermarket? I plan on doing roughly 3-350hp

Get stock mounts and you will be happy. They usually separate and fall apart.

Just age and use. They're rubber so they can dry rot, and they can also be contaminated by oil pretty easily as well. I'm assuming you have the square style? Aftermarket is fine, but OEM generally lasts longer (much more expensive usually). There are upgraded ones too...

Here is my car shortly after purchasing it, you can clearly see that the passenger side engine mount is shot.

But instead of replacing it, why don't we go out and do some highway pulls? Yep, sounds like a great idea!

I managed to pop the engine up and out of the cup. Don't worry, here it is with new solid (urethane) mounts:

OP, they tend to wear out for the reasons that Poodles mentioned. Nothing to really be concerned about, just replace them.
