Motor dies at idle when given throttle

Just installed a fresh battery (Red Top). Car is hard to start, and usualy dies immediately after first startup. Starts fine after a few cranks the second time. Idle undulates between 8 and 1100 RPM, idling up and then back down almost rythmically. New thermostat stays around a quarter between cold and hot, and doesn't climb. Oil pressure stays steady, and i haven't noticed any leaking. I gave it gas at one point when the idle dropped, and brought it up to around 11 or 12 hundred RPMs, letting off the pedal sharply. The idle dropped normally, but kept falling until the car actually died. My lights get significantly brighter every time i hit the gas, as if the alternator is going out. I think i have a boost leak, because i can hear a harp whistle in the engine bay near the turbo. I know some people check for boost leaks by spraying starter fluid on the piping, but i don't want to damage anything. Is there anything i should try to avoid specifically, other than the KV sensor? Also, as an unrelated side note, my blinkers don't work. Neither the interior lights, nor the exterior ones work when the stalk i moved. Is there a fuse that controls all of them as a group?

I had a similar problem and it turned out to be the afm. But check all the fuses first and if you know someone who has an afm you can borrow swap it in, than check timing and compression. good luck
