Hi I fould a guy that needs to sell a 89 turbo motor with a 5-speed, a fancy clutch, and the full wiring harness. It's been sitting in his garage for a year and a half. He claims it has a new head and only 60K on the clock. It was his friends fathers car, who wrapped it into a telephone pole during a rain. He was planning on trying to put it into something eventually, but he got married, had a baby, and is going to move soon so he wants to get rid of it.
I have a 91 auto stocker that is perfectly fine with 120K on the clock now.

Is this a good deal?
Could I use the engine in my auto car?
Is a 5-speed swap very difficult? ( I guess I'd need a driveline at least)
He claims it doesn't have a BHG. Can that be tested with the motor out of the car?
If a motor has sat for a year and a half without running, do you think it get rusty inside?

Sorry for the long post and thanks for your thoughs...

Newbie lurker,

$500 sounds like a decent deal. You can check compression with the engine out of the car and that should give you an idea on the condition of the engine. But also if you're getting it at that price and it's out of the car, why not just do a head gasket and studs so you won't have any worries. The 5-speed swap is easy, you just need all the parts.

Even if its got a BHG its worth it.

Before the motors in the car, change the headgasket and all other difficult stuff.

The head gaskets EASY to change when the motors out of the car!

Buy it and dont look back.
