im going to get kicked out of AP english, which is lower than the gifted/talented english that I was supposed to be in (due to them only having one period of gifted/talented english and me having tech during that time)

so Im going from a B+/A- GT student, to a regular guy moochin off the government... unless I finish these 5 essays tonight.

you got 4 already? good cuz i dont really have any suggestions. just wanted to vent about AP/GT classes. i really dont believe they are worth the extera effort. i took advanced english and history(for a month before switching to retard history). yeah its nice to come to college with a few more credits but other than that your just stressing out over nothing.

at my school they said college would be harder than the AP classes and that AP's would help you be prepared. thats a load of bull in my mind. my collage classes are just like my high school ones. different matirial of course, but the AP's were way harder.

Secondly my counsolers said that colleges like to see that you took AP classes and you would be more likly to be accepted to a school if you took them. I also think this is bunk, i believe that they would rather see straight A's in regular classes than C's in AP's. Case in point: my best friend. took all the regular classes, even the study hall elective that was a garanteed A goof off class, his gpa was 3.0 or better. I took some advanced classes, three years of spanish wich got me an "advanced" deploma, gpa of 2.5 average through the years. He gets into almost all the schools he applys to, me? i get into 2 out of 5. And my friends here have never even heard of an "advanced" diploma.

sorry, i kinda changes subjects here. this is a topic that has really gotten under my skin.

well ive done well in everything (naturally good at the math/science stuff I suppose) except for history, which im in regular history. GT english was really a good group of people, there isnt many people accepted into GT, so we had all known each other for 5+ years so I enjoy the security of the class, there is no goof offs, idiots, people that ask retard questions to sound funny, etc. so I decided GT english was a good class for me to keep. now that they narrowed it down to 1 period, I couldnt take it, and being in just AP english really is a pain in the ass, I dont like the class at all.

so as far as the title of the class (AP, GT, remedial) it doesnt really matter, I think any class can be easy as hell if you have a good teacher and friends in the class that can help you if you screw up.

and I didnt say I have 4 essays written, Ive just found 4 out of the 5 articles, ive been working since 4:15, its now 10:36, I have 1 more article to find still, and 5 essays. looks like Ill easily have 10 hours of english homework in one day.

Jon

p.s. Just remembered that I kinda sucked at physics, but that didnt matter because my girlfriend at the time had the exact class 1 period before me... wow thanks for the answers!!! those were the times :naughty:

I used to risk life and limb to race the mountains on what was at the time the highest power to weight street machine you could buy--the CBR 900RR

I once calculated that it was roughly a one ouf of four chance that I would die from that. For those that would go out there consistently every Sunday and race all out, they would be in this pool.

Why did I do that. Many reasons.
Being on adrenaline is like being told you just won 10 million dollars.
I don't think anything can give me more adrenaline than racing a superbike that has more HP than many cars.
From watching the movie "The World's Fastest Indian" I heard the main character say something like, "you live more in 5 minutes than some do in a lifetime." Said that about speeding, he did.
Unless you risk life and limb, it really is hard to get a huge adrenaline kick.
If you enjoy the feeling of being in that situation, then you may likely be a thrill seeker.
I wish I could feel so alive again...nothing like being on so much adrenaline that you are about to shake. I remember chasing one of the fastest around these turns and after those series of turns, my feet were shaking at the heels up and down.

Another reason--one that is less important to me--is for the status of your peers.
If you master whatever the common interest that you and your friends have, you will have a higher status. Same goes for these forums as well--those that know the most about cars (specifically the MKIII Supra) will have a higher status than the average forum member.

So there you go, two of the biggest reason.

** Of course I don't advocate for anyone that reads this to feel inspired and do something that could kill or injure them.
For me, although I was skilled, a LOT of luck kept me alive.
When many get older and maybe wiser, they begin to think that it is not worth it.
For me, I just have too many other problems now and just don't need anymore (such as a crash).

fun little excerpt:

People who climb mountains or parachute out of airplanes are not just daredevils. They actually have to seek adventure to satisfy their minds, George Bubenik said.
Many thrill seekers have different sensory receptors in their brains. The lack of stimulation in the brain is called reward deficiency syndrome.
" These people do not get enough satisfaction from the normal stresses of life," Bubenik said. They crave higher levels of the hormones adrenaline, dopamine and serotonin. The more adventurous things they do, the more "drugs" their bodies receive. "They do not feel happy unless they are doing something risky. They more and more dangerous stuff they do, the more pleasure they get."

edit: tony im sure you have some of the above going on when you ride...

woot just found my last article, time to start the essays.

Why do people take risks and take on thrills?

Its simple. Its the experience that lets you know you are alive, and the humble realization that you are expendable!

That and the nice little high of adrenaline. :evil2:

Use the words "hegemonic masculinity". Seriously you will get an A. It explains the whole thrill seeknig notion amonst males. For example (this is stolen from another source btw, my university time was over 5 years ago)

In contemporary America, hegemonic masculinity is defined by physical strength and bravado, exclusive heterosexuality, suppression of "vulnerable" emotions such as remorse and uncertainty, economic independence, authority over women and other men, and intense interest in sexual "conquest". While most men do not embody all of these qualities, society supports hegemonic masculinity within all its institutions, including the pop culture.

Google it and your paper will write itself.
