so after replacing the HG and having a fun ol' time with a bad water pump, thermostat and radiator cap, i have yet another problem; i am loosing radiator fluid but i have no puddles i can jsut smell it after driving for a while and every couple of days i have to add more fluid. the smell is comming from around the turbo area, by the water outlet housing

Check your coolant lines to the turbo...might be a good idea to replace the hoses if they are old. There's also a small 90 deg hose under the waterneck to the hard line around the block.

Mine did the same. Smelled like coolant but would never puddle up while sitting.
Turns out (like jdub said) the coolant lines to the turbo would seep coolant at the ends.

I'm betting turbo coolant lines as well. You can't see it as easily because it instantly burns off the exhaust manifold as it drips.

You should see it if one of the turbo coolant lines ruptures with a hot motor...it's pretty spectacular. ;)
