MKIV Rear brake conversion?

Hello,
I just purchased a 4 piston wilwood big brake kit for my car and i was looking at options for the rear brakes. I thought about upgrading to MKIV rear calipers and i had some questions about it, I did some searching but i haven't been able to really figure out what is needed for the conversion. Are they bolt on? Can MKIII rotors be used? and if there is custom caliper brackets or etc involved is there any place i could buy a complete bolt on package? Any ideas or info is much appreciated.:icon_bigg

Looking at the installation doc from the link above, there seems to be a big area of the pad being wasted. It looks like the caliper sits to far out from the center of the rotor.

Doesn't look like a proper install to me...

Have to shim the rotor to hub area as well. Is it better than stock? Probably, but still not ideal.

if you press the mkIV hub's into your rear carrier's,the mkIV rotor will be hub centric and not need shimming.without the correct insert's for the caliper's,some of the pad will not contact the rotor fully(like other's have mentioned)

The only thing that seems to be an issue then is the fact that you don't get the full effect of the brakes because it leaves part of the pad off the rotor?and shimming the hub, How exactly should i go about doing this?Also I am running 4 piston wilwood calipers in the front, would the addition of the MKIV brakes be too much for my braking system?

Yes the pads hang off but if you look at the mk4 vs mk4 disc comparo picture the pad area of the mk3 rotor is probrably about the same as the actual contact area of the mk4 pads on the mk3 chassis, but there out another inch or so. Leverage advantage is still there with probrably the same pad friction area.

There was a group buy for them way back when IIRC. Good luck finding them now...

We need a sticky, I'm tired of doing this.

1.) Pop out the threaded inserts in the rear calipers. Measure all dimensions. Also measure the centre to centre spacing of the holes on the mk3 caliper.

2.) Measure the brake rotor bores of mk3 and mk4 rotors.

3.) Go to your local machine shop with the dimensions of the caliper inserts and hub spacing ring. Have them make the parts, ideally machine the caliper inserts from 4130. Install the new inserts into your calipers, and mark where to drill the mounting holes using the dimension you measured from your mk3 rear caliper. Offset the holes radially inward as much as possible (with respect to the wheel) to minimize pad overhang. Drill and tap to the appropriate thead (M8 iirc).

4.) Install

6.) Profit.

From what I remember it took YEARS for the guy to sell all of them that he made. Doesn't seem to be enough demand, especially since the MKIV rear calipers aren't cheap...
