MKIV NA Rims: Tire Question

i got the MKIV NA rims and im lookin to replace the rubbers on the rears sometime in the future. they are 16x9. what is the widest tire i can go for? i've seen 255s on sawblades, so i know i can go bigger..
whatchya think?

You could possibly go wider than 255 depending on whether the tire maker says a 9 inch is an acceptible rim width, if of course you could find wider. DR's shouldn't be too hard to find larger, but street tires will be a bear to come up with.

Unless you get DR's you are stuck with 245/45 or 255/50. Ask me how I know:3d_frown:

Here's a link to Goodyears tire chart and it shows their Approved rim widths for specific tire sizes, it can get you in the ballpark. Myself I prefer a tread width about the same as my rim width that gives you less sidewall exposure to the road surface and keeps your rims from scrapping against curbs.

I have 245/50's. It is hard to find tires wider then 255 but 255 has a 50 side wall which would be kinda tall.

255 is about as wide as you can find for 16" rims. and even those are sometimes hard to find.

they will fit just fine on a 9" rim btw.
