Can you put MK!V brakes on a MKIII? I've heard that the caliper bolt pattern is exactly the same you just have to space the caliper out so that the disc is centered is this true? If so is there more to it than just that?

Geez Louise, not again!!!:: facepalm :: Yes, they can be adapted with custom brackets, ("Nightpager") and machining of the MkIV rotors. Is it worth the effort and additional cost??? :umno:
There are alot of BBK's out there now for the MkIII. Just save yourself a MASSIVE headache,:aigo: and buy one!

Edit: This was reffering to the front brakes only.

Don't take my word on it, as I'm still doing a little bit of research on wether this would work.

As far as I know, the rear calipers bolt straight on. The fronts however need an adaptor (nightpaper for example)
As for disks, the Nissan 350z track rotors will bolt straight on, no extra work required.

You may want to check this information though. It's been a while since I looked all this stuff up, so it would be worth while.

The rears need shims for the disks and offset inserts for the calipers to work correctly. The fronts would need brackets, ect. Some peopl have used the entire MKIV hub, but that has issues as well.

Not to mention that the front brakes for a MKIV aren't cheap at all and arz's wilwood setup is better, lighter, and not much more...

350Z track rotors have a 66.6mm centerbore. The Supra hub is 60.1mm. Therefor, you will have to have not only the caliper brackets, but also a machined centering ring, to make them work. Trust me, it is just not worth the headache to save, maybe a few hundred dollars, (if that!!!) when there are no less than 4 or 5 great BBK's to choose from, READY TO BOLT ON!!!:icon_razz

what if you wanted to use the nightpager brackets with Lexus LS400 (UCF20, 95-00) front brake calipers...cheap as hell, COMPLETELY aluminum 4piston opposed calipers, lighter than the mkiv TT calipers, and there's less than 10mm difference in overall rotor size. (323mm vs. 314mm for the Lexus). the Lexus rotors use the same bolt pattern and centrebore as the supra, but im unsure how the hub offset will work out, though it depends a great deal on the brackets used.

you can generally pick up a PAIR of loaded used calipers from most wreckers for under $100, and there's a few half decent rotors and pads around as well.

last thing i can think of is there may be some ball joint bolt shaving required, or the use of some RCAs for the front suspension to gain some extra clearance.

and for those who doubt, the 2LS bbk upgrade is VERY popular with both 1st and 2nd gen GS, 1st gen LS, and xZZ30 model Soarers, they'be been using them for years as a lighter cheaper alternative to the Supra TT bbk.

fair enough, looks like I need to figure out another way.
I was actually talking to a mate last night about putting the A80 hubs on there. what sort of problems would that entail.

As for BBK, look at my location. There is no point getting a BBK in the US and shipping it across as by the time it's landed and in my hands, I could have put the brakes on already for a fraction less most likely. Or at least that was the case when our dollar wasn't that good and it'll be a while till I will get them.

DBA here in Oz can do hub hats and disks seprately. (5000 series: http://www.visionfunction.com/vfimage/dba-brakes/DBA Rotor 5000.jpg) might be worth while seeing if the disk from the 4/2's will bolt up to the A70 hat or find a disk that will. If that doesn't work, just machine up my own hat to fit the 4/2 disk.
