mk3 rear license plate mounting screw size?

Does anybody have an idea what size / thread type the screws that hold the license plate on for the rear? Finally re registered the car after 7 years and don't have the screws anymore. I tried m6 x 1 but they were too big. If all else fails I'll park outside the hardware store and try every size that looks close.

i dont have the size off hand but if you have a toyota dealer close by just stop by nad ask a tech for a couple. they will just give them to you.

If that's too big, either someone drilled out one if broke or the welded nut on backside broke off.

I have had a couple of cars where the screws broke off. I just drilled out and re-tapped.

6mm x 1 was correct. I had to retap the threads as they were completely rusted and I couldn't get more than two turns before.

Make sure to put anti seize on your new bolts. We have to change plates every 3 or 4 years. I am glad I use anti seize.
