Hey im adam I have a 89 targa supra shell that I traded my way into. I got it from a guy in charlotte that only managed to strip it down and turned into about half a supra in a couple boxes. I don't even have a clue what all I need but that's all for later. Now I have acquired a wrecked 94 ls400 with 60k miles and I wanna put the motor in my supra. But as I am very limited on funds so as much as I would like to, I cannot afford to spend a bunch of money on unnecessary upgrades for now. So it is gonna be a budget build. So now I have done a bunch of research and read many threads on different forums and decided to join here and let you know what I got going on. The cool thing about my shell is that it has kaze quarters, skirts, and rear bumper. With rolled front fenders and a greddy front bumper. It has no trans, harness, or ecu. So what I wanna do is take everything out of the Lexus and make it work in the supra. I've been lookin at how to go about it and now I'm more confused then before. But I don't have much wiring experience and I'm not sure how to go about wiring it up. So any help on what to do would be much appreciated. I've never done anything like this I've worked on cars my whole life but never any swaps. So any info helps me guys.

Be prepared to spend countless hours working, cursing, and spending lots of money. Because a budget build still turns into a few extra thousand dollars needed to finish,

Take pics of your chassis

I can handle all the work its the thousands of dollars im worried about. But im pretty sure i can do it without spending a whole shit ton of money. The motor runs smoothly in the vehicle its in now. So what id really like to do is find a way to just set it in there the way she sets completely stock. Then modify it from there later when i can afford it better. I think my main concern for now is the driveshaft, motor mounts, and wiring it up. ill try to post the pictures its got its downsides mostly the big glob of bondo where some ignorant person try to shave the molding (they didnt even sand the paint off) but its all right i can get it out body work and upholstery are my specialties i actually do it everyday lol

Spend the money on a DD then, don't bother with a project when you need a daily. Invest in a car that will get you to and from work along with other chores while you build up the 1uz project.

The project will go better when you have a daily, that way you don't stress yourself about finishing it so quickly and forget to do vital things for the swap.

You will need a few things to make a LS400 1UZ fit in a Supra, You will need the rear sump oil pan assembly from a SC400. The LS400 has a front sump and will not fit in the Supra without modifying the subframe a lot. Also, you may need the SC engine mounts/ exhaust manifolds. The manifolds differ, allthough the LS fit, you have to ditch the heat shields.

I can also say the wiring isnt that hard once you understand what each components does and how they talk to each other. To get a better understanding I just purchased the factory EWD book and went from there.

You can do a 1UZ on a decent budget, but take it from me, the 1UZ is not a force to be recond with if you have no funds. Just a tune up will cost over $150. And when you start buying things, all of a suddend you need another three for every one.

If you use a W58/R154 you wont need a new drive shaft made, and if you put the engine in the sweet spot the Supra trans will bolt up no prob.

I'd say do your homework for another month or so and collect parts, and seriously consider a W58. There are bolt on kits on ebay for a decent price, but realize you get what you pay for.

Good luck.

Hell yea so I need to get a SC rear sump and manifolds I might just get headers made. Then acquire both ewd's and I should be well on my wayto happiness it will one day have the w58. I saw those kits for 1000 I would get t now, but I need to use that elsewhere for now. I saw some motor mounts but I saved the sight at work. I really appreciate the help man I was hoping for some experienced advice

No problem, join clublexus and lextreme. You can find the parts you need there if you cant source them locally. If you know a guy that does headers then go for it, but I was quoted I believe $1300 for extractors and that wasn't in my price range at the time.

If they are that high ill prolly look for some sc header or just use the stock ones for now but i know a guy with a little muffler shop. He is pretty reasonable on exaust systems. But ive never had to get custom headers made. So i guess we will just see

Yep, the 1UZ is smooth, but I rather have some vibration isolation between my engine and frame. You will have to talk to 4U2QUIK to understand how these mounts place the engine, he is the one that makes those mounts.

I'm in TN and if you decide to get rid of this, send me a PM. You've got a ton of work and a decent amount of money required to get this working. Best of luck.
