Misfiring?

I had this problem before, but it went away after I changed my plugs. I changed my plugs to 3330's and 500 miles after one of the cylinders started misfiring occasionally. Now 1500 miles after the plug change it's almost undrivable. Before it used to do it on hot days and now it doesn't seem to care. Even right after I start it up it will misfire, but doesn't misfire in the higher RPMs or so it seems. The car has new coils and coil wires, I checked the plugs and they looked good. I even gapped them a bit tighter to .030 and that didn't help. I also checked the ECU for leaking caps and found none. I've observed that the AFRs go leaner when a misfire occurs. Some of my mods are 2JZ 550s, AFPR, 255 Walbro, Emanage Blue and Im running a 61mm single. This is on a 1JZ btw.

Hard to say, I asked a friend about this but if black is not coming out It could be lack of spark.
This happen once to my car. All I remember doing different was unplugging the ECU to reset it. Car ran like crap for about 15mins, then started to smooth out some until it ran perfect. It's worth a try cuz with new plugs, coil and coil wire could be that your ecu is has the old set up in memory.
Another thing did you soder the coil wires? Check the sodering to make sure it's not jumping to ground.

I'm hoping others will chime in to give some pointers but this is what I can think of for now.

my guess...

coil packs are cracked like everyone elses. The act of undoing the coils and putting them back on might have cracked them more. Take them off and fill all the cracks around the "feet" of where they bolt down with nail polish.

The packs are new.

You know..

About 1.5 years ago, my 1JZ would do little pops once and a while kinda like a missfire but not total cly misfire. It never did it in the high RPM's so i never bothered with it. Alot of people have high RPM misfires on 1JZ's, so I considered myself lucky and never touched it.

It only did it running 3330's. I switched to 6097's (they have the v gap to prevent low rpm misfires) @ .028 gap, and problem solved.

man i just ran into the same problem on my car tonight. when im at low rpm low throttle it misfires, but at full throttle and into boost it runs fine. once i let off the car tries to die for a few minutes, misfires really bad with low throttle, then will go right back to idling normal.

any information is much appreciated

I ended up changing my plugs to new 3330s 3 days ago because one of the cylinders died completely. Well today I was driving on the new plugs and it was misfiring again, one of the cylinders even died for like 10 secs.

I also finished my fuel pump rewire yesterday, so now I'm sure my issue is not in the fuel pump. I also checked compression while I was changing plugs and it was perfect at 170 across.

Anybody have clues or suggestions?

Caps on ECU are fine. I also tried running the stock ECU with no emanage and car actually ran worse. Also seems like the car is running richer. Oxygen sensor gone bad maybe?

If it is running richer then check to make sure you dont have any vaccum leaks. Worth a try since you have ruled out a lot of things in all of your dealings. Maybe a hose got close to something hot and got a hole and it just happened that it started making problems for you at the time you changed your plugs. I mean maybe it is more of a coincedence that you changed the plugs and it happened. I was new to the 1JZ and my dad helped me do the swap and just started pulling vaccum hoses and not labeling where they went. So when I got it back together it took me two days of moving hoses around to get them all right. Biggest problem was the hose going to the MAP was clogged and it would run like pig crap and then sounded like it was running rich and then die. I changed out the hose to the MAP and cleared right up. I am only throwing this out here cause you never know.

Yea I checked all my vacuum hoses before and actually found a couple spots where there could've been a leak. I also popped a vacuum hose at the track once and car ran richer then my wideband could show, probably around 9:1 at idle. Right now the car runs higher 12s. I also unhooked my 02 sensor and car ran even richer. Like mid 11s. I just think the 02 sensor has a lazy reading since it's still the original 02 sensor from the swap. I ordered an 02 sensor on friday, it should get here on tuesday.

A narrowband O2 is cheap.

You say you gapped the plugs to 30 thou, I would try lower, like 28 thou. My car never ran right if the plugs were greater then 28 thou.

You say the coils are good, but what about the connectors on the wires going to the coils? If they're damaged in ANY way (missing locking clips especially), replace all of them. Cost me $54cad for all 6 at the dealership.

If you go from no throttle while cruising to a little bit of throttle, is it a little jerkey, or is it perfectly smooth. If it's jerkey, your TPS is either mis-adjusted, or bad.
