Sounds like you need to look for a new head. .080 is way too much. You will never gain it back with a HG. Reminds me of a funny story. My buddy has a 70something Japanese Fairlady with an L28. He blew his HG, and I helped him fix it. We take the head off, and it's badly warped. I tell him to take it to a machine shop to get it fixed (needed to be straightened, then shaved). So a few days later he has the head back. I take a look at it, and first thing I notice is the shiny surface. Very smooth. Nice. Then something grabs my attention. The number 1 and 6 chambers are FOOTBALL SHAPED! 2 and 5 aren't much better. This moron machinist just shaved the head and called it quits. Didn't even notice that he shaved them beyond the chamber edges. Royally ruined that head. You wonder how some people stay in business.

Jesus... I cant reemmber, I just knwo there was an "8" in there... I dunno if it's .080 or .008, I dunno... I'll call him tomorrow and ask...

Mississippi Justin: I am putting a 2mm mhg in there... :D

Florida Justin: dont toss that head JUST yet, I may need it from you, lol...

IJ: 116mm? I'll ask him what it is now, and then let you guys know...

I swear, if this keeps up, I might just have to get with Titan and run one of thier race heads... UGH!

well the matter of compression isnt your only problem. as im sure you know, the less head you have up there, the harder it is to dissipate the heat. We already have the problem of the head expanding faster than the block by nature of the metals, but if theres less metal making up the head, its going to heat up faster, stay hot longer, and have a better chance of flexing. Id say get your hands on another head if youre going for high hp which im sure you are. Good luck with it my friend :)

Jake,

I am 65% sure I'm gonna try to make a trip to Holt this Friday. I'd like somebody else from over here to come with me, but not absolutely necessary. If I make it over there, I have 2 heads sitting here collecting dust. I don't know a lot of history on either on, but I will bring both. You can take them both to your machinist, and hope for better than what you have. Free and delivered.......I vow to not be undersold!!!!!!!!! I will just want to be sure you're coming to get them, if I bring them. I don't want the extra weight when I run. And, all I ask for is the cams back (they are N/A).

Now, questions about the track in Holt. It is 1/4 mi, right? And.....can you give me directions to the track of I-10 (and an exit number)? And any other info I might need, like costs and anything special about the track you can give. Do they do decent track prep? My only 1/4 mile experience was very depressing. I ran on what they call "the ice rink @ gulfport, and best was 15.4 with my near stock car with exhaust.

I dunno if I'll make it to Holt this friday or not... I dunno my schedule... :(

Put them over the rear wheels for better traction, lol...

Holt is not quarter mile, its an 8th... But it's a true 8th, not like Mobile's track... I think Mobile is like 60 feet short...

Here is their website: http://www.emeraldcoastdragway.com/ $10 to spectate, $15 to race... *per person* Their site has thier travel directions too... Its not a BAD track... Not so "street car" friendly some times... :)

Thanks for the offer on the heads... I guess I'll know more tomorrow... I hope I dont NEED them, lol... But...

Damn, I thought Holt was 1/4. If you need it, I'd meet you half way or something anytime. But, I'll probably check into Hattisburg then. I think it's 1/4, maybe not. I'd do Atmore for a good 1/8, it's only 35-40 miles from Satsuma

YESH I DO'Z!

Ok, here's what he said, and it looks like I was putting the decimal in the wrong spot... Its not .080 it's .008 which would put it within spec, and with the 2mm mhg, it should give me even a little more clearance... Also, we are going to clean up the cumbustion chamber of the head and do a few things in there... This might actually work out better... Cost more, but work better, lol... Should help even more with flow and stuff...
