I would venture to say that if it is the headgasket, it is because you did not remove the rivet.. I just put a Titan/cometic into mine as well and had to remove the rivet. Some of the newer ones are rumored to clear, but I did it anyway to be sure. Also, another great test to check for BHG is a block test... I'm sure you know what this is, you can pick it up the fluid at NAPA and rent the tester from auto zone any time you need it.

Yep. Compression test and coolant test to see if exhaust is getting in your coolant. You DO NOT want coolant getting in your oil so don't drive it until you have done these.

how do you guys remove them? rip it out or drill it out?? thinking deformed head gasket...

and for the block tester... autozone rents the tool you just have to buy the $7 dollar fluid. Thats about as cheap as it gets on a supra ;)

If it didnt seal id look at flatness of the head and block, Ive done some stupid ass things with heads on newer motors that have factory metal HG's and they have never let go on me after 130,000+ miles of abuse and learning.

Yeah, I will go ahead and rent the block tester to set my mind at ease on having to pull the head... But if it is the case, then I got lucky the coolent did not get to my oil. Like many I spent soo much time and money on bringing my mk3 back to life, I would hate to see it all go to waste for not doing something that can be done in a weeked.

i have not seen a cometic gasket yet but i wonder if could be a revit on the HG. i know on the HKS you have to remove the ones sitting between the block and head.

When I put a Cometic on my motor a few years ago, I had to remove a rivet or two. (I think it was just one)

I clip the rivet out rather than trying to drill it.
