PHILADELPHIA — Michael Vick is back in the NFL, landing a job with the Philadelphia Eagles.

"He signed with the Eagles," agent Joel Segal told The Associated Press in a telephone interview Thursday. He said it was a two-year deal.

Vick, once the NFL's highest-paid player, has not played since 2006. The former Atlanta Falcons quarterback was convicted in August 2007 of conspiracy and running a dogfighting operation, and served 18 of a 23-month sentence in federal prison. He also was suspended indefinitely by the NFL.

Commissioner Roger Goodell conditionally lifted Vick's suspension on July 27, allowing him to sign with a team, practice and play in the last two preseason games. Once the season begins, Vick can participate in all team activities except games, and Goodell said he would consider Vick for full reinstatement by Week 6 (Oct. 18-19) at the latest.

The Eagles went to the playoffs last season under quarterback Donovan McNabb, and are still looking for their elusive first Super Bowl win.

The team, though, is a surprise landing point for Vick. It was among 26 clubs that said there was no interest in Vick, but that may have changed when backup Kevin Kolb strained a knee ligament earlier this week. Kolb's injury isn't serious and he's expected to return next week. The Eagles also have veteran A.J. Feeley.

When news of Vick's signing circulated in the press box during the first half of the Eagles' preseason opener against New England, even the team's public relations staff seemed surprised.

What he did was terrible. He served his time. He got another job. I say, good for him.

Yes, however that doesn't mean people have to hire him. I find what he did to be reprehensible. He is an athlete. No matter how much some fans love their favorite athlete, they are all very replaceable.
Just because he performed well in the past does not mean he will in the future. I don't see why the Eagles couldn't find someone else. If I were Vick, upon leaving jail I would cash out on anything I had of value and tried to live off the interest. I can't think of anyone who really wants to see him back.

But why should they NOT hire him?
I think the Philly fans will welcome him with open arms.
Honestly I never like the way he played. A great passing game for Vick was when he threw for 250yards.
He went to jail for dogfighting. I think selliing drugs, DUI, and murder are a lot worse. That is my opinion though.

Nope but sure sounds a lot worst than dog fighting.

Don't worry about how it sounds. Worry about "how it is".

Michael Vick was convicted of a crime. Didn't he plead guilty?

Ben Roethlisberger has been accused, nothing more. If you look at some of the allegations behind the story, it's looking more and more fabricated by the "victim" as time goes on. I'm not saying it didn't happen, but I'll wait for what the judge or jury decides.

They can hire him - that is their choice. I happen to think that Philly fans who welcome him have more concern about a GAME than things that are much more important.

You say that it is "dogfighting" as if that is not a bad thing. Generally, people who abuse animals have a much higher chance of being abusive to children and spouses, and of being deranged in general.

Oh no don't get me wrong. As I said in my first post along with the article. It is horrible. I like pets as much as the next person. But if the law thought that he should be in jail for life or 10 years or 5 years or whatever than they should of sentanced him for that long. The law said he should be in jail for 1 year and a bit. And he did his year and a bit. Now he has his job back. More power to him.

I agree with you, for the most part.

He did his time. He doesn't get a cookie from me for it.

Him doing his time doesn't make me any happier about what he did.

I expect most people to see him, for the rest of his life, as an animal abuser, and treat him accordingly.

Reputations like this can ruin a person. Good for him, for being able to get a job, but really.. he's practically being rewarded by being allowed to return to the NFL. You would think that his "brand name" would be tarnished.

Professional sports doesn't give a damn about any brand but their own. If he helps this team win a Superbowl, the fans will, for the most part, gladly look away.

And there are less people currently in the USA today that can perform at that level than there are who have won the lottery. A team can't just hold tryouts and pick up a couple new players in a day or so.

Playing in the NFL might be a reward if he was still the highest paid player in the organization, but somehow I seriously doubt that is the case here. If, as I suspect, he's not getting paid top dollar anymore, then you need to take into account he's a 29 year old man enrolled in a job where the average player last 3.5 years before they have to retire and find a regular job. Pro football doesn't exactly lead to many professions.

The police didn't look into the Ben case. I'm done with that. How about they guy who ran someone over in a DUI? He's only gonna serve 30 days and a year suspension. Vick was out longer for dog fighting. Doesn't make sense to me but I bet they'll welcome him back with open arms.

He's a back-up QB for when McNabb starts to choke. So, that means he'll be playing often. Still, he isn't going to give Philly it's first SB win.

Besides, I have more pressing matters to deal with - hoping number 89's shoulder gets better before the end of pre-season.

I find it amusing that what he did is called a "mistake." Not paying attention and rear-ending someone is a mistake. Brutally killing dogs multiple times, you have a serious mental problem or are just a piece of shit.

I find his hiring a non issue anyway. McNabb will get hurt, and Vick will come in. Vick will do a poor job and will go away. He wasn't a great quarterback anyways, a good playmaker, but a poor quarterback. Now two years and have not even thrown a ball, he'll be gone.

Dante Stallworth is my new role model.Killing dogs just doesnt do it for me anymore.I prefer running over people whilst being drunk. God Bless America

1+ dogs and dog killings are overated and way too hyped up these days....:sarcasm:

oh and to answer why anybody wanted him..... a million bucks for an NFL player is a steal, they paid 1 mil for their kicker in 2008, what do they have to lose? if it doesnt work out they cut him at the end of the year. Very little risk.
