Is it required to have your head worked if you are going to a MHG that is 1.4. Am I correct in that the stock compressed is like 1.3. Or can this be just a replacement part? I am looking into a moderate hp goal of around 400. I have a couple heads in excellent shape. one is a fresh rebuild.
Thanks....

All headgasket jobs whether you have a stock style composite or MHG, require work. Both the head and block must be flat. The composite is very forgiving, I won't lie. The MHG is not. On top of that, the MHG must also be smooth as pointed out above.

So I can just have them smooth the head out at the machine shop while i am gettine other things done. What about the block? I know I will not have to pull it and have it worked also! Are there any ways to do this on my own or do i have to machine it also.

you want a good machine shop to surface the head and block. if they dont/cant hit 30RA dont bother... they should be able to hit it, and be confident to tell you they can.

I guess I will swap the headgasket when It goes. I really cant see pulling my motor just to do a head gasket. If I am pulling the motor I am going to do more than just that. SO I guess I will just hold off on this till I have to. I also have another motor that I was going to do something with. Maybe that will be what I do with it. Thanks
