Just did a motor swap and turbo upgrade, have MAFT but not installed yet just running 550's and lex to test it out. The car wont idle, its okay one minute then its sputting the next. When you let off and it sputters it seems to be running very rich there is some smoke out the exhaust that burns your eyes. When im driving it and I get on it at WOT it runs fine its only under light throttle or no throttle. Basically under load it seems okay it pulls very hard without stumble. My A/F meter hooked to the 02 also goes nuts back and fourth from rich to lean while idling. when its not under a load and a crack the throttle fast it chokes up and displays lean. The Mechanic turned the idle up to 2 grand for now but he cant figure out whats wrong. When im driving at WOT it displays all the way rich and runs fine. I dunno what to do

WOW. Almost identical experience...It will run lean then the next second, it goes rich...and I get it sputtering sometimes after I start it back up after driving it recently. Have yet to figure out what it does, but I've learned to live with it. I'm running 550's but not MAFT/Lex. Hope you figure out the problem...I'm getting ready to do a rebuild so it isn't bothering me too much on the count of I dont drive it too often.

Believe it or not I have the exact same problem. I have done everything to try and fix it to no avail. I am currently swapping turbo's and will update as soon as possible when I am finished. For a complete list of the work I have done, please refer to my original post some 1 year back :p. I don't have time to find it, but just search and it'll be there.

it just gets worce, now I cant even drive it, when I step on the gas it goes from "rich" to all the way "lean" and sputters what could the code be? I cant make it to a garage to get the code checked

Do you have enough parts to put it back to stock?

If so do that and see if it will run then start trouble shooting from there.

You've made too many changes for anyone to try and guess which one is the cause.

22 is water temp sensor, I had it disconnected once, 51 is no idle signal, thats why my car is **not idling** but where is the idle control and what could be wrong? 52 is knock sensor, I had knock for a second because the ic water pump was not working and the ic was running hot plus timing has not been set yet because of its inability to idle

Do you mean actually "checking" your codes? You don't need a shop.
Just some sort of metal (paper clip is perfect) and your car!:icon_bigg

My idle speed control is working but I dont have the big air hose hooked up, does it need to be hooked into the intake pipe? I had it blocked off maybe thats why!!?

Sorry but DUH!

As I said in another post our motors are a system if EVERYTHING isn't hooked up they won't run right!

Put EVERYTHING back to stock get it to run right without codes then LEARN what each part does before you disconnect/delete things.

code 51 can be the TPS, although I think that is unlikely, because the symptoms would be different.

A fried knock sensor, or a disconnected one would make the car run like crap... maybe that's the problem, are all of your vacuum lines connected properly? kinda sounds like a vacuum leak... especially check the ones to the fuel pressur vsv. any gaskets not sealing, I would go around with carb cleaner to check. YES, i belive the ISC hose has to be connected...try that

51 is the tps, they go bad very often. They can stick which will make it run very rich when it sticks and then it can snap back and the car will run purfect. If the tps has not been replaced before, it is time for a new one. I have seen at least 12 bad tps's in the last 6 months.

On the maft, did you tune it EXACTLY like the instructions say? Using the Vf signal for the initial setup and then tune with a wideband? If not the ecu could be fighting the maft to keep the car running right which will make it run poorly at idle or partial thottle.

And on the knock sensor subject, if the car was running poorly and knocking the ecu would just retard the timing, but you would not get a code stored for it. A code 52 is because the knock sensor or the wiring to it is broken.
