MBC vs EBC

I have never run anything other than stock turbos and MBC's, but I am upgrading my 1JZ from the stock twins to a T04. Stockers were smoking right away :(

EBC's sound good on paper. I was just wondering if a EBC is really worth the money as far as performance goes?

Setup:
1JZ
T04
Stock fuel/electronics for a couple months until I can upgrade.

I think choosing an EBC over a MBC comes down to a couple factors.

1: How often do you want to change your boost levels?
2: What size turbo are you using, wastegate setup as well?

With a larger turbo, you can really take advantage of solenoid / stepper motor's (whichever you have) duty cycle or gain... meaning it's going to keep the gate shut till the last second to decrease spool time and overall lag.

AVC-R from Apex is amazing with its features, and if I had to do it all over again, I'd probably get one.

I personally have a HKS EVC IV, and am going to play with the EVC EZ whenever it gets here to make a comparison of spool time with both unit's fuzzy-logic firmware.

So in conclusion, for me anyway... I'd choose a EBC over a MBC.

super street did a test years ago on different mbc and ebc's. the mbc's that they tested didnt always keep the boost at level they had set them to. the ebc's were always where they wanted them to be.

but it all comes down to how much are you willing to spend.

I never had a problem holding boost, or overboosting with drjonez's MBC. Worked great until the day I put the MAFTpro in with boost control. :)

I just built a MBC from parts at a hardware store... i tested it with my compressor and it does up to 20psi fine... its not some super sophisticated thing, but it works, which is what me and my friends need.

No... Thats why I asked

Thanks for everyone else's opinion. Looks like I will try to fit a EBC into my budget :)

to me that's the best thing to do, plus you never no when the weathers going to change and you need to turn up the boost.
