I thought it would be a good idea to have one thread to answer all of the Offset questions...

I see a lot of will this offset look good or how about this one and what size tires fits in here so this thread is to get rid of all those threads.

Post a Pic of your rim
State the Offset,
Size tire running
And the Size of rim.

I'll start off heres an example of what rim not to buy

supra2mo2.jpg

Offset 40
Running a 235 tire, the biggest tire I could fit on a 7" rim is 255
17x7

Now having a rim with poor offset can be fixed with a pair of spacers in the rear but its just better to buy rims with the correct offset instead of guessing. New rims coming soon

BUT! if we had a thread with all the members pictures with wheel size, tire size, offsets, and suspension set-up we'd get a better idea of how everything would look and sit. Just a simple side picture and picture from the front or back showing how the wheel sits in the wheel well and a short description would do wonders.

Actually it is easier than that.

Step 1: Walk out to your car with a ruler and measure the distance from the inside edge of your tire to the shock

Step 2: Enter your current setup numbers into the calculator

Step 3: Enter your new desired setup numbers (width/offset) into the calculator

Step 4: Hit calculate.

Step 5: Read the output - it will tell you how much more/less space you will have on the inside edge

There are really too many variables to try to make a huge list. Then how do you sort it to make it easy to find the information.

Well, that would be to make sure it fit. The purpose of this thread is to see how all the different set-ups and sizes look. No need to organize, it would be for viewing pleasure also.

"Looks good" is totally subjective.

Many people say the MkIV TT 17" rim looks too sunk in when put on the MkIII without a spacer. The funny part is the outer edge matches exactly where the stock sawblades sat (on the outer side only).

Figure out how far out from stock looks good. I think my new rims will look killer - and luckily someone else has alread put theirs on these same rims (after I bought mine). The outer edge will sit 18mm out from where the stockers sit. That to me looks perfect.

I agree that the mkiv tt wheels do look sunk in even though they sit in the same spot as the sawblades. But, do you know what size spacer would be good for the front and back to make it look better?

Nah, let's roll with it... :naughty:

This gets asked so often having a couple threads with pics and breakdown won't hurt.

I've mentioned it a few times and wanted to create a wheel fitment guide for the MKIII. I guess it'd be simply taking the right measurements and plugging 'em into the settings that are used in Steve Jarvis' guide... Which would be the ideal choice, since it will actually tell you if a particular size/offset will require a fender mod, or if it will look stupid.

Someone take a look at this and see what basic measurements from the MKIV wheelwells are being used.

Here's another calculator I saw on SF before.... http://www.marksink.com/tire_wheel_offset/offset.html
