Im looking a little more into a map sensor for my swap. Right the two options im concidering are the HKS (Denso) boost pressure sensor (i believe its the elusive 3 bar sensor) or a MR2 sensor and BCC. The HKS unit is 125 and i can get the mr2 and bcc for 90. any suggestions.

the mr2 sensor doesnt read as much boost as the 1jz's but the boost cut controller would take car of that. On the other hand the hks sensor will read 2.5 bars of pressure but im not sure if the 1jz ecu can compensate for that high of PSI resulting in fuel cut from the ecu being able to read stock limits only and having to get a BCC any way. I want to go the HKS route but if I have to get a BCC id go with the MR2. Oh the MR2 sensor has been confirmed to work by pheonix tuning. The work close with Dr. Tweak and got my wiring harness extended for me. I believe the pheonix tuning owner is run by MR2 Guru (he really knows his ish), dont quote me on that though.

Hey, thanks for the plug. Actually the MR2 Guru guy has a business called Phoenix Motorsports and his name is Josh. My business is Phoenix Tuning and, unfortunately, my name is also Josh, so it gets a little confusing sometimes. Add to the fact that I do wiring work for Josh at Phoenix MOTORSPORTS and it gets really out of hand... :)

Yes, the HKS MAP sensor IS the elusive Denso 3bar sensor. Denso part 949940-6420 if you were curious. If you can get them for $125, I would highly suggest doing that, provided you have some way to scale fuel back 30% or so. This is also the same sensor as the APEXi 3bar.

Both prices are pretty good. I personally would probably go with the denso, but that is because i dont know much about using the mr2 sensor.
They're both Denso sensors :)

It's a 3bar sensor, so wouldn't it read 2bar of pressure ;)

You wouldn't happen to have the part number for that MR2 sensor would you?

I have an afpr so that should help with the scaling, im glad someone has confirmed the HKS unit.

HKS BPS:http://www.hksusa.com/products/?id=2006&rsku=0

As for the MR2 sensor I don't have the part number but call Pheonix Motorsports:http://www.phoenixmotorsportsonline.com/

They may have some sensors around the shop.

Both will, both apexi and HKS sensors have exactly same plug type given the two we're discussing..

apexi is USUALLY a bit cheaper though, that's why I think I'm go that route and I remember seeing an odd vacuum nipple on the particular HKS sensor thats molded in to be used with FCON for some function (who knows), though that may not be all of them. But that wouldn't be a big deal, however why pay more for the same..

Actually, Rob the sensors are different from what I've seen.. BOTH are indeed 3Bar, however different part numbers.
Hmm, interesting. I bet the difference is purely mounting style. (like 1JZ vs 2JZ sensors)

I have an HKS 3bar on my car as we speak. Works well. The case is the same shape as the 2JZ sensor.

Can i just change my stock 1JZ map sensor for this one

Sensor Assy
949940-6110

Denso Japan"

I do not know iff this is an MAp sensor are something else

Maybe its just an vacuum sensor are something (somebody (annoying rob)correct me iff i wrong PLS )

I wil take pics of the sensor when i get home

yeah, what i meant wasnt different part number rather a different style number i suppose.. one is DPS-310-3000A (HKS) and the A'PEX is DPS-310-2000A.

The difference being that nipple for the FCON [not pictured but is located on the opposite side of the sensor from where the picture is taken] and a little more pricey, both mount 2JZ style.

motorola map sensors won't work? They are very cheap. I use them in hondas? Just got to wire them in?

I really dont trust Motorola anything. Everything I have ever used from them has been subpar.
