Boxers are about the same as an inline layout, but they have a couple issues...

mainly packaging and the rev limit is absolute (go over it and very bad stuff happens)

Actually, mechanical engineers find the I6 layout to be damn near perfect and the end-all-be-all as you say to engine design. V12's and boxers are close seconds as boxers have the above issues and V12's are just too damn expensive to make...

lol. I'm not saying boxers are ftmfw either. I just get tired of hearing crapp about 'omg thats not straight 6, that's the gayest thing ever'.

*edit*
I do like how everyone thinks it has a miss though.

I've owned a Subaru flat 4, and it was smooth to redline.. Very nice motor, and other than sounding like a Singer Sewing machine, they are awesome :)

The new FSI V8's used by Audi can be had from the 360 range to 420something here in the USDM. (RS4, and the redline on that engine is 8K something IIRC.)

In Europe, they allow more Nox, so the engine can run leaner under no load, gets better fuel economy and IIRC, they rate them higher HP numbers too.

In the RS4 it's a very potent package. (But that little sedan is still 70k used.)

Audi is now making a 5 varient with two doors, and it's moved the front suspension forward, giving the car better balance. (Typically nose heavy as the engine hangs out forward of the front axle on my 98 A8.) They tend to push in corners when driven really, really fast, but you have to be going stupid fast in the city to ever notice this, and on the highway, it's never pushed that I've noticed, but then again, our highways are designed for very smooth corners, that could be taken at much higher speeds than the speed limits will allow. (So your going around corners built for 120mph at 83mph, and the car is very stable at that speed, on that road way.)

Here is a very cool look at this car. I would love to buy a S5, but the A5 would be plenty fun indeed with only 360hp.... It's just a nice looking coupe with AWD, V8 power, and a very safe design.

You have to select your language, and what you want to see, and it helps to have a fast connection...

and again, I wasn't saying they were the absolute ftw either. I was just saying how hearing 'I6 is teh pwnage anything else is teh suck' has gotten really old.

Um... I have a lightly modified 1J that just barely pulls on STIs. And that's only like, 70 more HP than a stock USDM MKIII Turbo.

Stock, the STI is a very capable car, but the MK3 can be built up to be faster for sure. (Keep in mind however, that anything you can do, they can do as well, and AWD is the great equalizer in many cases on street races..)

Thus the reason I'm very interested in buying a used S5 here in a few years. (Nice looking, but not so flashy as the R8... and the price should come down.. Heck, if the A8, and S8 falls in price like they have in the past, I might sell my A8, and get a slightly newer S8 for the 5 valve engine, bigger brakes/suspension and the extra 60hp. :) Then again, it would have to be outfitted the same with the solar roof/shades, 4 power/heated seats and alcantera trim upgrade...

anything can happen on the street...

for a roll, both the Evo and STi aren't all that compared to a Supra, but from a standing start (and if the guy doesn't care about his clutch) you'lll be left there looking like an idiot...

I have yet to race an STi (spanked quite a few modded WRX's though), and it always seems to be in the rain that i see and STi and I'm not that retarded to even attempt that one...

Yep, the STi's are much better look IMHO... until the new ones that are coming out (WHAT THE FUCK WAS SUBARU THINKING?!?!?!?!)

I like the Evo's as wel, but their warranty is VOID if you do ANYTHING to the car at all, unlike the STi/WRX where the dealer will install tons of parts for you...

^ I disagree. It's not a I6, but nothing looks impossible.

It's not a Ford. :icon_bigg

Oil filter is 10000x easier to get to (in the open, under the car... not wedged between a turbo/manifold/PS pump/PS rack/PS lines/IC pipe/subframe). :icon_bigg
