This is in a 1990 Turbo with five speed swap. The car has the automatic wiring harness (with reverse and neutral switch wired up) and ecu. Im about to purchase a new harness from Toyota, and was wondering if a manual harness would work.

if you are going to a 5 speed from a auto then yes you have to have a 5 speed harness. it will have the correct sensor hook ups for the trans. i assume you have the correct speed sensor on hte trans.

Sorry i was unclear. i have already converted the car from an auto to a 5 speed with all of the wiring associated with this swap. im looking to buy a new harness and was wondering if i could use a 5 speed harness in place of my auto harness with the auto ecu.

ah then yes. the auto ecu will work with a 5 speed and 5 speed harness. the 5 speed ecu wont work with an auto car. the 5 speed tran you have and harness just wont use some of the auto ecu's functions but otherwise it will work.

What about if i have a NA auto and swapping a 7mgte in it. Would the auto turbo harness work with the NA auto trans?

im doing a motorswap, keeping the NA auto trans. So i was just wondering if the harness for a auto turbo would work on a auto NA tran

mine worked but i also used the sensors from my old turbo trans =/ i had a JDM trans (60$ woot) and the speedo was on the other side. but after swapping the rear section it worked out fine.

sorry to bring this back up, but before i spend 600$ on a manual harness i need complete clarification :aigo:. Will there be anything i need to do to bypass the neutral start switch since i will still be using the auto ecu or will it be just plug and play?

i dont think that will be a problem. the auto ecu will work on a 5 speed car. the nuetral start switch for the 5 speed is in the clutch petal and it may be wired into the same pin on the 5 speed as it is for the auto ecu.

i think at one time i used an auto ecu on my 90T 5 speed and no problems. i just dont call specifically it was so long ago.
