finally found some time to work on the car tonight. going to take a pacesetter header and make it full 2.5" from the collectors to the cat.

first off, made a miter box for the sawzall (never ordered the metal bandsaw, ugh). nobody around here mandrel bends pipe so i'll have to cut the angles and weld them myself. i suppose if that turns out bad, i'll start looking for a distant shop with a mandrel bender :)

exhaust came off, separated the cat at both ends and replaced the bolts with stainless (expecting to remove them again in the near future). all this to replace these guys.

when i pulled the cast manifold off, it appeared to have a slight leak on cylinder 6. every single stud backed out of the head too, so i got those cleaned and reinstalled.

also got the manifold laid out on pegboard (just an idea to see if it would make fitting the new one up any easier).

thats about it for tonight, progress stopped when my drill battery died as i was drilling the new flange's holes from 7/16 to 1/2 inch to accommodate for the 7/16 studs in the head from Driftmotion.

Basically what ij said is whet we did on my turbo cars doenpipe, but all I had was an angle grinder so it was much much more work, but I dig the progress

haha, did some calling around and looking on the internet, found a combo mandrel bend that'll do nicely. just saved myself a ton of work and the indignity of using my homemade miter box :D pics tonight!

Pretty sure this belongs in the NA section ;)

Moved.

For a few minutes it had my vote for the humor section. :biglaugh:

Booooo Clip! Premade angles are cheating! I was REALLY looking forward to this. :(

j/k... well, sort of. I'm eager to see how this turns out.

alright! more progress made tonight. found the bend that i needed and a flange/gasket and saved me a ton of time with the welder and saw :) plus it looks pretty good.

got the y pipe cut and ground, and got the holes drilled to 1/2" (and adjusted one with the die grinder). didn't get any pictures of the cut pipe, but got a laugh out of this section of the pacesetter. talk about a bottleneck!

after the y pipe was cut, it got bolted up to the car for more fitting and some tack welding.

i basically got it in the ballpark and welded it up. ill be the first to admit they aren't the prettiest, but i'm just going to grind them smooth and ceramic coat the whole deal. had to close a nice size gap since i cut an odd-shaped oval.

ROFL!!! Damn that guy cracked me up... I actually got a bit depressed when I saw his car for sale. :nono:

It all looks pretty good so far, when you coming over to build my new setup? That bottle neck is nuts... I wonder how many there are throughout the rest of the system.

hey its done! got the oxygen sensor bung welded on yesterday, finished welding the runners to the flange yesterday and today and got the last length cut and adjusted. not happy about that last part, but it was the cleanest way to get around the trans brace.

That is a nice improvement. The only thing I probably would have done differently is to move and replace the Y-pipe. It would have been easier to buy two smaller 45's and extend the header under the floor pan and then use a prefabricated Y-pipe to merge the two pipes closer to where they originally merged together. There would be more welding involved, but at least you wouldn't have to mess with any oval pipes.

That was what I did (extend the secondary pipes),
but couldn't find a pre-made Y that I like, so I built that also.

Damn, never looked inside the Pacesetter collector,
just by looking at it I knew I didn't want it.
It is worse than I imagined :aigo:

Good Job,
May the Thunder Gods of the 7M world be with you.........
