Hey man, I agree with you 100%. Do the wiring yourself. It is more gratifying to do it yourself. A multimeter and wireing diagrams,Thats it,oh yea and the want to. I have most of a 7m harness(plugs) if you want free.

Man if you look at the harness all opened up, its nothing mote than pieces of wire - a plug at one end, and or the other as well.
As long as the pins are correct, the plugs are done right, I don't see anything hard about it. ( yes I have done enough wiring to know )
I think its great you are tackling this on your own man. If you can work on airplane wirings - which requires you to stick to strict specifications - , doing a car wiring should be a piece of cake....The hours spent on it may not be though...

Do it.

Start a project thread now, so we can ridicule you if you fail and praise you if you succeed.

If you can't even afford to buy wire yourself, you own the wrong car dude.

He did not say he could not afford it. The aircraft quality is what he said he would like to use....I want to see him succeed. Stop being a crab in a bucket and try to pull this guy down ....... :biglaugh:

i'm more or less...ok with wiring and following diagrams and such... so i can make a high quality engine harness, that will have stronger connections so they don't pull out of the plug. wires can also withstand more heat and are treated against corrosion.

anyone ever try this?
That's funny. I've undone many parts of the 2JZ harness, and it's easy to get pins out of the ECU side after you know that you are doing. You need to pop the yellow part of the plug off and use a small jeweler's flathead screwdriver. The pins/receptacles don't just slip out unless you trigger the right pin release area, trust me - and the ECU pins were the easier ones to get out than any others in the harness that I can think of.
As for the rest of the plugs, they can be a pain. You have to use a jeweler's flathead to semi-gently and patiently push the weather seal/gasket from around the plugs. This usually allows you access to some sort of main locking mechanism. Then you have to find out where to lift in order to release each individual pin. As far as quality goes, the Toyota harnesses are excellent. If you want to make your own, go ahead. If it were me, I would extend a harness or buy one, but I wouldn't build my own, and I love to solder.
