That's funny. I've undone many parts of the 2JZ harness, and it's easy to get pins out of the ECU side after you know that you are doing. You need to pop the yellow part of the plug off and use a small jeweler's flathead screwdriver. The pins/receptacles don't just slip out unless you trigger the right pin release area, trust me - and the ECU pins were the easier ones to get out than any others in the harness that I can think of.crazysupra2JZ said:i'm more or less...ok with wiring and following diagrams and such... so i can make a high quality engine harness, that will have stronger connections so they don't pull out of the plug. wires can also withstand more heat and are treated against corrosion.
anyone ever try this?

As for the rest of the plugs, they can be a pain. You have to use a jeweler's flathead to semi-gently and patiently push the weather seal/gasket from around the plugs. This usually allows you access to some sort of main locking mechanism. Then you have to find out where to lift in order to release each individual pin. As far as quality goes, the Toyota harnesses are excellent. If you want to make your own, go ahead. If it were me, I would extend a harness or buy one, but I wouldn't build my own, and I love to solder.
