ok i bought a head gasket set and am replacing it this weekend. car ran fine but smoked a lot, had oil in cylinders, and loss of power until it now has water on the pistons. replaced the vc gaskets a few months ago and didnt solve the oil problem. my guess is valve seals so im gonna replace them while i have the head off. i know i should get arp studs and metal head gasket but im a youngin' and married and the wife gets on my nerves when i spend money so i just bought a permatorque fel pro gasket and said to hell with the head bolts. i have reused 22r head bolts and it worked just fine with more torque and putting oil on the threads before installing them. i have read that 70-75ft/lbs is the magic number and we used that on my cousins 91 n/a with success. my questions are:
1- cam bearing cap torque number? dunno if its the same as 22r at 24ft/lb. need some help there.
2- rocker arms....when i take them off what to torque them back down to?
3- cam sprockets torque specs? also will i notice any gain advancing or retarding them?

and.... i have a 92 turbo 7m that i am going to use the injectors out of. is the turbo intake and plenum any better than the n/a? and i did research and didnt find jack but i am wondering if theres any way i can plumb the turbo oil/coolant lines into the n/a block the way it is on the turbo motor? i found some block offs on the block but they dont look right. and the t-stat housing is different. any help would be great. thanks.

TSRM has all the torque specs, no rockers on a 7m, don't really understand what you are trying to do, are you going NA/T? If so there are several threads on the conversion.

If you have water on top of the pistons I would highly recommend a complete tear down as you probably have contaminated bearings and if you don't replace them you will at the least have RK and be more money out.

no bearing damage already checked. water is on the plugs and just a little on the pistons from the bhg. the rings are good enough it didnt leak down but im replacing valve and cam seals to try and fix the oil consumption problem. i havent decided about the na-t swap yet as i have a 92 gte block in my garage that i can build but is locked up pretty tight

ok got the valve and cam seals changed. total p.i.t.a with a regular spring compressor. actually had better luck with two people on pushing down with needle nose pliers and one pushing down on the retainers. ghetto job but it worked. putting it all back together today. keep ya updated.
