Some idiot cut the main blue fusible link on my car down to a useless stub, and now I need to fix it before I can hook my battery up.

I was reading that you're supposed to replace fusible link with the same color and length, but I have no idea what the original length was, and the color is blue, but the blue link I bought is much smaller in size than the original stuff on the car now.

Someone told me Toyota uses millimeter sizing on their fuse link (so this one should be 2.0mm), and if that's right, I should be using grey link not blue.... wtf?. Can anyone give me some help with this one?

Called the dealer... they told me to use 14awg link. It's black and it came in a six inch long piece with the ends pre stripped, so that's the length I'm installing. Whatever.

They told me it wasn't available anymore. Only the one in the fuse box was.

The one I was talking about is attached directly to the battery positive terminal.

I was going to put a 100 amp fuse in, but I read on a few websites that fuses and fusible links don't work exactly the same, fusible links allow short duration current spikes but still protect against long duration overloads. You *could* use a fuse in it's place, but a fuse that's the proper size to offer the correct protection might blow during some conditions under normal use, and going to a larger fuse might be a fire hazard. Not sure how they get around that on the newer cars. Maybe the newer fuses are different and the info I was reading was outdated or BS.
