Hey guys I've been lurking around this place for a while now just researching and saving money for this swap. I bought an aristo 2jz for 950 about 2 years ago after i crashed my car drunk drifting. Since then I spent my time fixing my car back up and getting ready to get this show on the road in between school and work its been slow. Anyway I'm antsy as hell now and so I just started doing everything at once. I started tearing down the engine to get her ready for a rebuild but halfway through I decided against that because thats expensive and may not be needed just yet. Instead I'll just clean the head and get the swap done and worry about a rebuild if i absolutely have to.

Here's Maggot Brain as it stands sorry for the cell pics...

You can see the new bumper and fender which is a reminder of my old dumbass self. Oh well.

Basically I've made a few big purchases:
low mileage jdm twins
used slotted and drilled rotors
jza70 intercooler

along with some other misc things. If you havent been able to tell by now, this is a very low budget build. I'm going to be cutting corners in ways that are frowned upon in the supra world but who cares lets just get it done. I'm going to try and wire this badboy up myself because Dr. tweak is expensive (although probably worth it) but I have no prior wiring experience and in fact I have no prior experience with engine builds so bear with me as I stumble through this. I know how to turn a wrench and I've completed quite a few big projects on this car, a 240 and several BMWs so I'm not a complete noob, I just never done anything so involved as this swap.

ok fuckit more pics

I started by removing everything on the hot and cold sides

the first 5 spark plug holes all had oil in them but later i checked the actual plugs and they weren't fouled up, it seemed like the oil was kept above the thread so my guess is leaking valve covers, although they seemed in reusable condition...

but the 6th one was bone dry and had white crusted residue on the coil end and when I checked the actual plug it had the same stuff coked up on it. I'm guessing it was running lean but does anybody know why the 6th was the only cylinder affected?

anyway i took the cover off and removed the cams as well. is it me or do they seem discolored? its not just the camera, they actually look like this

I couldnt get the upper water neck off of the water pump and I don't want to force it out and break something. I'll just wait till I get the crank pulley bolt off so I can take it off with the oil pimp.

Btw about the cams what I mean is they are two different colors the intake is lighter than the exhaust, but now even as i say it i'm realizing its probably because of the temp differences of the two sides.

this is the engine now

I'm going to leave it alone internally. I'm currently trying to source a gasket kit for the head only. A complete complete gasket kit is $400 average nowadays. they used to be around $300, wtf.

I'm eyeing these ebay kits for all the misc gaskets, and I'll buy a head gasket from driftmotion or something.

Any thoughts?

I bought an ebay kit for my 7m when i had it, but i never got to hear it start. The gaskets from ebay aren't bad, just as long as they closely match the toyota gaskets. The felpro intake and exhaust gaskets weren't as think as the ebay gaskets I got tho. I'm not telling you to do it and I'm not telling you not to, but I just wanted to throw a little of my 2 cents out there.

Good stuff, nice price on the 2jz tho

True. but I dont think they can fuck up something as small simple as a water neck gasket. Hopefully that thought process wont burn me in the near future...

But thanks for the support fellas. i never knew it but it makes you feel good when people comment lol

updates:

I got everything in place and got the crank pulley bolt off. it was on there pretty hard but i basically just put the engine on its side and stood on it while my girl cranked the 8 feet of pvc pipe i used as a cheater bar. i actually had to push up against the tree to keep the engine from rolling with the bar. it came off fairly quickly. who knew?
