Maft Pro air temp sensor install question

I have a bung epoxied onto my IC piping for the air temp sensor. The problem is when I screw in the sensor (it's 3/8" NPT tapered thread), the sensor is sitting about flush with the inside of the pipe. It doesn't actually go into the air stream.

Is this okay, or should I put a new bung on that allows the sensor to be in the air stream?

Heat and epoxy don't mix....shit gets very brittle and breaks easily.

Have the bung faced on a lathe (machine shop) then tig weld it in place.

Which Sensor is it?

The pipe is already powdercoated (decided to run the Maft Pro after finishing all the IC piping), so I'm not sure if getting it Tig welded is feasable?

Ok it's a Delco type and the plastic basket needs to be in the airstream.
