So i am wondering if anyone has ever done a gm or any other brand mass air flow sensor on the 7m? I know that using a map is more of a guess, as compared to afm. so let me know if it is possible, if so how i would like to clean up my engine bay from the afm housing but still have an accurate airflow measurement.

Whats not plug and play the maft? or using a mass air flow sensor? I assumed that its not but was wondering if you could wire it in? Both the afm electronics and maf use iat internal (most maf sensors). Is there anyone out that has done this? The only thing i think i might have an issue with is the fact that you would have to calibrate the maf for the injectors, which to me, sounds like it would be the same as running 550 and lex? or using an safc?

You can't just swap out the AFM for a MAP sensor or any other sort of airflow measurement sensor. The ECU expects a Karmann Vortex signal in Hz - not a voltage like a MAP sensor would output. A MAFT Pro is a unit that takes the voltage output from a MAP sensor and translates it into a signal in Hz that the ECU 'reads' as if it were an AFM. It's basically a translator.

How does a MAP sesnor clean up the engine bay. I myself use a degreaser and rags.

Hitachi makes a reliable and accurate MAF sensor. There are many aftermarket upgrades that are not plug and play.

I stated to "clean up" as in getting away from the afm housing, like just using a short ram type of intake tube or what have you, not literally clean it from dirt and grease?

Anyways i believe i am gonna stick with the afm for now i can make it work.

hate to thread-jack...but why do you say MAP is "more of a guess"? it is definitely not a guess....just watch your boost gauge under normal driving, the manifold air pressure adjusts a lot according to how much throttle input you give it and how much load is on the engine....its a lot more accurate than you might think

or better yet, watch it while driving up a hill with the cruise on, and see how it changes with any little bit of inclination change as your engine gets under load but stays at whatever RPM its at

I come from a land down under
A big MAF sensor shits all over a MAP system for accuracy in all conditions as it's actually measuring ALL of the air entering the engine and adding the precise quantity of fuel needed and not as JJ points out "guessing".
